Subjectivity in preventing and fighting African swine fever in Vinh City

Nghi Kim Commune is one of the localities with the most complicated swine fever epidemic in Vinh City. On September 15, the commune destroyed pigs of 2 households, Bui Xuan Hoang (Hamlet 1) and Nguyen Thi Cuong (Hamlet 4), a total of 6 pigs, weighing 634 kg. Marking the return of this epidemic even though the commune had previously declared the end of the epidemic.

On September 16, reporters present in the locality recorded many "loopholes" in the local epidemic prevention work. The most obvious thing is that the checkpoints at the beginning of Nghi Kim commune, connecting to National Highway 1A, have no personnel on duty. Items such as lime powder, chemicals, straw... are also scattered roughly, just for coping purposes.

On September 16, Nghi Kim commune destroyed over 5 tons of pigs, a "huge" amount in Vinh city. However, the pig destruction force here did not wear protective gear according to regulations, some even wore plain clothes to catch the pigs. When the reporter arrived at the scene, the commune officials reminded the destruction force to wear "convenient raincoats" to destroy the pigs.

Although African swine fever is complicated in the commune, the number of infected pigs is increasing, however, the trade of pork and pork products in Nghi Kim commune is still not strictly controlled.

It can be seen that the epidemic prevention in Nghi Kim commune is still subjective, negligent, formalistic, without strong direction from the local government. As a result, the epidemic is spreading widely in this locality. In just 2 days of the epidemic, Nghi Kim had to destroy nearly 6 tons of pigs, one of the localities with a large amount of pigs destroyed in Vinh city.

Currently, African swine fever has strongly recurred and spread at a dizzying speed in the city. Meanwhile, the initiative and positivity in disease prevention and control in some localities are still not high. In the case of Nghi Kim commune, we have reminded and will report to the city to handle collectives and individuals who are still subjective and negligent in disease prevention and control.
