The Speaker of the US House of Representatives makes a surprise visit to Ukraine.
(Baonghean.vn) - On May 1st, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and a high-level delegation from the US Congress unexpectedly arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that he met with US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in Kyiv. Writing on Twitter, Zelensky stated that he was meeting with the US House Speaker in Kyiv and that the US is leading efforts to support Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.
Zelensky's tweet also included a video of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other members of Congress being escorted to the government compound. The Ukrainian president was escorted by bodyguards to greet the American delegation.
Joining the US congressional delegation on this secret visit to Kyiv were Adam Schiff, Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, and Gregory Meeks, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
This is the second high-level US delegation to Kyiv, following the visit in late April by US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Most recent high-level visits by Western leaders to Ukraine have been kept secret until the last minute, only announced after the event has taken place or the delegation has arrived.
Pelosi and other US lawmakers' visit comes a few days after President Joe Biden announced a plan to allocate $33 billion in defense and economic aid to Ukraine, with over $20 billion of that going towards arms purchases for the Eastern European nation. The budget package is awaiting approval from the US House of Representatives.
