Also present were representatives of the leaders of departments, boards and agencies.

Son Lam is a border commune in the southwestern part of Nghe An province, where ethnic minorities account for 95.7% of the population. The natural conditions are still challenging; currently, 23.3% of households in the commune are poor and nearly 49.3% are near-poor.

Thanks to the attention of all levels and sectors, along with the efforts and determination of the Party Committee, government, and people, the locality has achieved many positive results in the fields of economy, culture, society, national defense, and security; and the people's lives have gradually improved.

The commune falls under the jurisdiction of the Ngoc Lam Border Guard Station – a unit tasked with managing over 28.3 km of border, including 19.2 km passing through Son Lam commune. The close coordination between the local Party committee, government, and Border Guard forces has significantly contributed to firmly protecting territorial sovereignty and maintaining political security and social order along the border.

Speaking at the "Spring Border Guard Program: Warming the Hearts of Local People," Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Trong Hai emphasized: In recent years, Nghe An has focused on solutions to develop socio-economic conditions and improve the lives of people in the western communes, including 21 border communes.

On the occasion of the traditional Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, the province mobilized the entire political system and society to work together so that everyone, every family, could celebrate the Spring Festival in a warm and meaningful atmosphere.

Programs such as "Tet for the Poor" and "The Compassion of the Lam River People" have become annual activities rich in humanitarian values, spreading the spirit of mutual support and compassion, contributing to sharing difficulties, encouraging poor households and policy beneficiary families to rise up in life, and continuing to uphold the tradition of "loving others as oneself" and "the strong helping the weak" of the Vietnamese people in general, and of the people of Nghe An in particular.

In particular, the success of the "Lam River Solidarity" program has contributed to spreading the spirit of mutual support and compassion, helping to share difficulties and encourage poor households and families entitled to preferential policies to improve their lives.

Acknowledging and appreciating the provincial departments and agencies for coordinating and organizing this meaningful and humane program in Son Lam commune, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested local Party committees and authorities to continue paying attention to social welfare, ensuring that 100% of policy beneficiary families, poor households, and near-poor households receive Tet gifts; and to organize safe and economical activities to celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Horse.

On the occasion of preparing to welcome the New Year, on behalf of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Council, the Provincial People's Committee, and the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Trong Hai sends best wishes to all compatriots, comrades, cadres, and soldiers in Son Lam commune for a healthy, happy, prosperous, and successful New Year! New Year – New victories!

At the event, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Trong Hai, along with Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department Ngoc Kim Nam and leaders of various units, presented over 500 Tet gifts to influential community members; policy beneficiary families, poor and near-poor households; underprivileged students who have overcome difficulties; and students of the "Helping Children Go to School - Children Adopted by Border Guard Posts" program. The total value of the gifts exceeded 1 billion VND.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also presented gifts to encourage officers and soldiers of Ngoc Lam Border Guard Station, the Military Command and the Police of Son Lam commune who are on duty during the Lunar New Year holiday in 2026.
The organizers also donated five livelihood models to disadvantaged families, helping people develop their economy and gradually rise out of poverty sustainably.

In addition, the "Spring Border Guard - Warming the Hearts of the Local People" program featured many meaningful activities, including organizing "Free Tet" stalls and providing direct assistance with essential supplies to disadvantaged households.
In addition, there were traditional cultural and sports activities such as making banh chung (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes), throwing the ball, bamboo pole dancing, gong playing, tug-of-war, stick pushing, etc., as well as medical examinations, health consultations, and free distribution of medicine to the people, carried out by the military medical corps of the provincial border guard in coordination with the Son Lam commune health station.

“Springtime at the Border – Warming the Hearts of the People” not only brings material gifts, but also spreads feelings, faith, and the warmth of spring to the people in border areas, contributing to building a strong all-people border defense posture right from the grassroots.
