Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Trong Hai visits and extends New Year greetings to officials, soldiers, and people of Thong Thu commune.

On February 3rd, Comrade Vo Trong Hai - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - visited and extended New Year greetings to armed forces units along the border, policy beneficiary families, influential individuals, and poor households in Thong Thu commune.

Accompanying them were members of the Provincial Party Committee: Dang Thanh Tung - Chief of the Provincial People's Committee Office; Le Thi Hoai Chung - Director of the Department of Health; and representatives from the Departments of: Interior, Agriculture and Environment, Ethnic Minorities and Religion, the Provincial Military Command, the Provincial Police, and the Provincial Border Guard Command.

The Thong Thu Border Guard Station is tasked with managing 33.737 km of the national border, 9 border markers (from Marker 358 to Marker 366), 1 Thong Thu sub-border gate, and is responsible for one border commune (a merger of Dong Van and Thong Thu communes).

Over the years, the officers and soldiers of Thong Thu Border Guard Station have always been united, overcoming all difficulties, coordinating with other forces, Party committees, authorities, and the people of Thong Thu commune to firmly protect national territorial sovereignty and border security; participating in building and consolidating the grassroots political system, developing socio-economic conditions, eradicating hunger and poverty, and improving the lives of people in the border area.

Notably, over the past year, the unit has conducted numerous comprehensive border patrols under its responsibility. It has effectively managed immigration and customs procedures, promoted administrative reforms, and created favorable and smooth conditions for people, vehicles, and goods crossing the Thong Thu sub-border gate. As a result, it processed the import of 857 tons of various goods.

In 2025, the unit, in coordination with other forces, will lead the fight against crime and arrest 4 cases/4 individuals involved in criminal activities, drug trafficking, and illegal fireworks.

In addition, the Thong Thu Border Guard Station effectively maintains models to help people develop household economies; participates in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters and building roads; calls upon and mobilizes agencies, units, businesses, and philanthropists to donate gifts to poor households worth more than 700 million VND; and supports 16 students, each receiving 500,000 VND per month.

Simultaneously, the unit effectively carries out border defense diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy on both sides of the border with neighboring Laos.

Informing about some of the province's outstanding achievements over the past year, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Trong Hai emphasized that the armed forces, including the Thong Thu Border Guard Station, have contributed to the province's overall achievements, especially in disaster relief and border security.

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Trong Hai requested that the unit continue to play its role as the core, specialized force in managing and protecting the national border.

First and foremost, the Thong Thu Border Guard Station needs to thoroughly understand the situation, coordinate closely with other forces and localities, and firmly protect the sovereignty and security of the border. They must be ready to fight in all situations; actively participate in disaster prevention and control, and support the people in overcoming difficulties. They should strengthen coordination with functional forces of neighboring Laos in managing and protecting the border and boundary markers; and maintain the effectiveness of the twinning models between the two sides of the border.

Simultaneously, actively coordinate efforts to build and strengthen the grassroots political system; implement programs, models, and movements to help people develop socio-economic conditions and alleviate poverty.

In addition, it is important to take good care of the material and spiritual lives of officers and soldiers; ensure good readiness for combat duty, and maintain security and order so that the people can enjoy a safe and warm Lunar New Year celebration.

On the occasion of the New Year and in preparation for the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, on behalf of the provincial leadership, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee sends best wishes to all officers, soldiers and their families for good health, happiness and success.

Thong Thu is a mountainous, high-altitude border commune located in the Northwest of Nghe An province. It was established by merging two communes, Thong Thu and Dong Van (formerly part of Que Phong district). The commune has a natural area of ​​over 706 km²; 33.73 km of border with Laos; and is located more than 200 km from the provincial center. The commune currently has 1,918 households with over 8,421 inhabitants, comprising 7 ethnic groups living together, of which the Thai ethnic group accounts for over 97%.

In 2025, Thong Thu commune faced successive natural disasters, significantly impacting production and people's lives. However, with the spirit of solidarity, consensus, and high efforts of the entire political system and the people, the operation of the two-tiered government model has gradually stabilized. The economy continued to grow, with the gross domestic product increasing by 7.5%; budget revenue exceeded the plan; and average income reached over 31 million VND/person/year.

Significant progress has been made in education, culture, and social welfare; the material and spiritual lives of the people have gradually improved. Party building and the political system have been strengthened; administrative reform has progressed; security and order, border security, and security in ethnic minority areas have been maintained, with no hotspots emerging.

During a conversation with leaders, officials, residents, and officers and soldiers of the armed forces stationed in Thong Thu commune, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Trong Hai informed them about the outstanding achievements in the province's socio-economic situation in 2025; the socio-economic development orientations of Western Nghe An, especially policies for the 79 mountainous communes inhabited by ethnic minorities facing difficulties in the province.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee acknowledged and highly appreciated the achievements of Thong Thu commune and extended New Year greetings to the Party Committee, government, people of Thong Thu commune, and the armed forces stationed in the area.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested that localities focus on organizing safe, healthy, and economical Lunar New Year celebrations for the people in 2026; ensuring good security and order, traffic safety, and preventing firework explosions.

In addition, it is crucial to have a firm grasp of the security and order situation, promptly resolve incidents at the grassroots level, and proactively prevent and vigorously combat all types of crime.

Also in Thong Thu commune, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province, Vo Trong Hai, visited, presented gifts, and extended New Year greetings to Mrs. Lang Thi Khoa, 104 years old, the mother of martyr Lang Dai Hanh, who died in 1977 during the war to protect the southwestern border.

On the occasion of preparing to welcome the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, Comrade Vo Trong Hai - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - sent his best wishes to the family and hoped that Mother of Martyr Lang Thi Khoa would live happily and healthily with her children and grandchildren.

On this occasion, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Trong Hai presented 1.1 billion VND in Tet (Lunar New Year) gifts from the Fundraising Committee for the Poor and Relief of Nghe An Province to support poor and near-poor households and vulnerable people in developing their livelihoods, and 150 gift packages from the Provincial Party Committee, Provincial People's Council, Provincial People's Committee, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province to families of meritorious people, respected individuals, and poor households in Thong Thu commune.
