Focus on protecting aquatic life during the rainy and stormy season.

(Baonghean.vn) - Every year, during the rainy and stormy season, the weather and temperature often fluctuate erratically, making it easy for pathogens to invade and spread to aquaculture ponds, greatly affecting the growth and development of livestock, especially shrimp. Currently, shrimp farmers are actively implementing effective solutions to protect their family's aquatic resources.

Aquaculture farmers are always worried whenever there are rapid changes in weather.

Entering the third shrimp farming season, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tuan's family in Hamlet 11, Quynh Thanh Commune, stocked 4,000 m2 of CP shrimp fry. This season, Mr. Tuan, like other farmers in the commune, often faces storms and difficulties in caring for and protecting the shrimp during their development.

Furthermore, sudden weather changes and unstable water conditions after rain weaken the shrimp's resistance, making them susceptible to disease. Therefore, Mr. Tuan often uses anti-shock medications, deacidifiers, and heavy metal removers. He also closely monitors the ponds to promptly drain surface water or pump out excess water from the bottom when the water level rises. Afterward, he adds water from the settling pond to regulate the salinity in the main pond to a suitable level.

Regularly monitoring the weather to regulate water levels in the fish pond is crucial to the success of the farming season.

Quynh Thanh currently has 75 hectares of shrimp farms, of which 38 hectares are farmed according to VietGAP standards. Due to frequent heavy rains and high water levels, the shrimp farming rate for the third crop in the entire commune only reaches 70-75% of the total area each year.

To ensure the safety of shrimp farming, the farmers have formed three volunteer community groups. These groups assign members to take turns regularly inspecting, educating, and reminding families to improve their awareness of maintaining a clean farming environment.

In addition, when shrimp diseases occur, besides promptly reporting to higher authorities, the team will guide farmers on how to handle the initial stages to prevent widespread outbreaks. After each rainy season, the local authorities will encourage farmers to sprinkle lime powder around the pond banks to reduce acidity.

At the same time, in the ponds, microorganisms, biological preparations, and minerals are added to help the shrimp develop strong shells and healthy growth. Furthermore, the commune reminds farmers to run water aerators continuously to prevent oxygen deficiency and water stratification in the ponds. Notably, many households in Quynh Thanh commune have also installed nets above the pond surface to prevent wading birds from swooping down to catch shrimp and spreading diseases from one farming area to another.

Having the necessary conditions and resources ready will minimize damage to aquaculture during the rainy and stormy season.

Mr. Ho Xuan Xuyen, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quynh Thanh commune, Quynh Luu district, said: "The People's Committee of the commune issued a notice directing the aquaculture cooperative to instruct farmers to implement several measures to prevent and control diseases during the rainy and stormy season. Specifically, this includes using lime and biological products to prevent diseases in shrimp and improving the surrounding environment."

Along with Quynh Thanh commune, other localities with shrimp farming areas such as Quynh Bang, An Hoa, Quynh Minh, etc., are also actively improving and supplementing measures to protect shrimp ponds. All communes are focusing on repairing and reinforcing degraded sections of embankments and drainage systems. They are constantly checking the water quality in the ponds to make appropriate adjustments and balance the pH level. Furthermore, they are preparing generators, aerators, and aerators in case of power outages, ensuring that the water fans operate continuously to provide sufficient oxygen for the shrimp.

Mr. Le Van Quyet, Vice Chairman of the An Hoa Commune People's Committee, said: "With the complex developments of storms and floods, aquaculture areas are at the greatest risk of being flooded, causing significant losses for farmers. Recognizing this, the commune has directed aquaculture areas to dredge canals and clear waterways. Agricultural officials have been assigned the responsibility of monitoring weather developments and disseminating information through the media so that farmers can proactively respond and effectively protect their aquaculture products."
