Treating a cold with drinks

There are many types of drinks that can help reduce your cold symptoms, such as: tea, coconut water, orange juice, tomato juice, etc.

Tomato juice

Tomatoes are not only rich in antioxidants that are beneficial to the body, especially during the worst of illness, but they also contain lycopene. Lycopene helps regenerate cells and also helps prevent certain types of cancer.

Tea

Hot tea is great for the throat. Warm water helps reduce swelling and pain in the throat, and the heat helps clear nasal passages. Add a little honey for sweetness and to lubricate the throat, making swallowing easier.

Water

Water is the number one drink doctors recommend for treating the common cold. The body's regular detoxification process is one reason doctors often advise drinking plenty of water. Another reason is that consistent water intake benefits the immune system, which is already working at full capacity when you're sick.

Coconut water

Coconut water is rich in electrolytes that can help prevent dehydration and maintain adequate fluid levels when you're sick. It's also readily available and is one of the most energizing, sugar-free beverages available.

Orange juice

Packed with vitamin C, this fruit also contains antioxidants, meaning it can help remove impurities from the body. Remember to drink pure orange juice, avoiding unnecessary added sugar.

Grapefruit juice

Grapefruit, or American orange, is another citrus fruit rich in vitamin C. Grapefruit juice helps ward off the common cold. The great thing about citrus juices is that they offer many benefits and are easy to use. You just need to eat grapefruit after breakfast or drink a glass of fresh grapefruit juice.

Red wine

According to Thedailymail, the significant amount of resveratrol in this drink can help clear a stuffy nose.

Ginger water

Fox News reports that the anti-inflammatory compound gingerol and shaogal compounds in ginger root help reduce swelling and sore throats quickly, and they may also kill the rhinovirus that causes the common cold. Ginger can be juiced or added to tea to soothe the throat and nose.
