Joining hands to "rescue" green pumpkins in Thanh Chuong.
(Baonghean.vn) - For about half a month now, the people of Linh Hong village, Thanh Linh commune, Thanh Chuong district (Nghe An province) have been in a state of anxiety because tens of tons of green pumpkins, ready for harvest, cannot be sold due to plummeting prices. After Nghe An newspaper published the article: "Green pumpkins at 2000 VND/kg still can't find buyers," many organizations and individuals have joined hands to "rescue" the situation.

Unlike the crowded scene of pumpkins everywhere, today the kiosks and house of Ms. Tran Thi Ha in Linh Hong village, Thanh Linh commune (Thanh Chuong district) have become spacious because more than 3 tons of pumpkins that had been left unsold for many days have been sold.
Ms. Ha happily shared: "After the Nghe An newspaper published the article, I received many calls from all over the country, mainly from members of the Thanh Chuong Hometown Association. They then introduced me to several businesses and came directly to buy pumpkins from the villagers."
The first organization to participate in "rescuing" pumpkins for the people of Thanh Chuong was Minh Khang Joint Stock Company - a business in Vinh City - which purchased more than 1 ton, and several units of the armed forces also joined hands to buy pumpkins to help the people.
A representative from an organization, who wished to remain anonymous, shared: "Having witnessed the production and use of pumpkins here many times, we can confirm that this is a clean food source. Previously, we bought them at a high price, but now that we've read about the drop in pumpkin prices, we're buying more, hoping to help alleviate some of the difficulties faced by the farmers, and also as an opportunity to buy more pumpkins at a lower price." |

Joining hands with their fellow villagers, many people on social media shared and encouraged the villagers, and spread the word to others. A young person from Thanh Chuong working in Hanoi continuously called on fellow villagers to form a rescue group and directly introduced a business specializing in supplying food to water transport units in Hanoi to purchase over 10 tons. This person said they would contact small traders at wholesale markets in Hanoi to continue buying pumpkins from the villagers.
Besides the contributions from organizations and individuals outside the area, these days people in Thanh Chuong are also paying attention to green squash when going to the market.

Thanks to the concern and rescue efforts of several businesses and individuals, the amount of unsold pumpkins has now significantly decreased. According to incomplete statistics, in the past four days, farmers have sold over 20 tons of pumpkins at an average price of 4,000 - 5,000 VND/kg.Currently, it is estimated that there are still about 40 tons of green squash remaining in the district.
"We are very grateful for everyone's concern and hope that organizations and businesses will continue to get involved in supporting farmers so that they can stabilize their production and livelihoods," shared Ms. Tran Thi Ha from Linh Hong village, Thanh Linh commune.
Nghe An: Even with green squash priced at only 2,000 VND/kg, there are no buyers.
