According to banana growers, bananas are easy to plant and care for, requiring little capital, and are more economically efficient than sugarcane or cassava. After one year of planting and caring, the banana trees bear fruit and are ready for harvest.

Each banana cutting produces many other suckers, which continue to grow until they bear fruit and are ready for harvest. Each banana clump can remain rooted for 10 to 15 years, depending on how well it is cared for by each family.
