Strange story: Making prosthetic legs for ducks using a 3D printer.
(Baonghean.vn) - A duck that lost both its legs due to frostbite can now waddle around again thanks to the efforts of a high school teacher in Wisconsin, USA, and a 3D printer!
Vicki Rabe-Harrison saved the life of a duck named Phillip, and after watching a video about 3D printing on the internet, she contacted Jason Jischke, a high school teacher in South Park, Oshkosh, Wisconsin, for help so that Phillip could move normally like other ducks.
The project, demonstrating the teacher's love for animals and his students' passion for science, actually took six weeks to design and create a suitable pair of prosthetic legs for the duck.
In the initial trials with the prosthetic legs, Phillip the duck was quite unsteady, but now he confidently integrates with other poultry and livestock in the area.
