'Yesterday's Story' by Bức Tường and Trần Lập

"Yesterday's Story," which premiered on the evening of March 17th, is a documentary that for the first time reveals the more than 20-year journey of the band Bức Tường and its leader Trần Lập, who lived their passion to the fullest.

On the evening of March 17th, exactly one year after the passing of the late musician and singer Tran Lap, the Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio premiered the film "The Story of Yesterday" - a work about the more than 20-year journey of the band Buc Tuong living fully with their passion.

Throughout that journey, Bức Tường has experienced countless ups and downs, events, numerous reunions and breakups, internal conflicts, and the pressures of family life and the showbiz world.

But above all, Bức Tường has affirmed its leading position as a rock band by creating songs rich in humanistic values, high aesthetic value, and a powerful impact on a wide range of audiences.

At over 75 minutes long, the film is the result of the hard work of directors Dang Linh and Hong Thang and their team. They worked on it for a long time, stemming from their love for Tran Lap and the band Buc Tuong.

In the film, special details about the band, their family life, love, and friendship are revealed for the first time by the members. They share their honest opinions about each other, without the embellishments and flowery language often seen in the entertainment industry.

The film also reveals the special, tumultuous relationship between frontman Tran Lap and lead guitarist Tuan Hung. Tuan Hung also reveals the reason why Buc Tuong disbanded.

After the band disbanded, Tuan Hung shaved his head. The members of Buc Tuong all likened Duc Hung and Tran Lap to an old married couple, who, despite often arguing, would never leave each other.

The nearly 80-minute film chronicles the 20-year journey of Bức Tường and Trần Lập in pursuing their passion.

Director Dang Linh said she had to stay up many nights researching and carefully selecting materials. The female director wanted the work to bring new and hidden aspects of the Bức Tường band to the forefront, revealing aspects that not everyone knows.

The film's climax revolves around Tran Lap. Just as the band was at the peak of its musical career, the musician and singer Tran Lap – the band's leader – fell seriously ill and passed away, leaving a void in the hearts of those who remained. The band was repeatedly faced with the choice of stopping or continuing, as no one could replace Tran Lap as their leader.

However, the vitality of Bức Tường has remained strong for over 20 years, with each song still resonating endlessly in the hearts of their fans. The love and admiration of the audience is the invaluable spiritual medicine that allows the true artists of Bức Tường to continue dedicating themselves wholeheartedly to the path they have chosen.

Sharing her thoughts after the premiere, Mai Hoa, the wife of the late musician Tran Lap, said she was pleased with the work of directors Dang Linh and Hong Thang.

"When Dang Linh was making this film, I advised her to focus on the band and Lap instead of the family story. I'm pleased with the film. However, I feel it still lacks a bit of Lap's spirit and determination. If that could be achieved, the film would have more depth for the audience," Hoa added.
