Hillary Clinton was rated higher than Trump in the first debate. |
The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted online in all 50 states. It surveyed 1,695 likely voters. Voters were selected based on registration status, voting history and voting intention. The poll has a margin of error of just 3 percent.
About one-fifth of voters in the poll chose neither candidate, choosing “Other,” “Do Not Vote,” or “Reject.” That’s double the number of voters who said no in a similar poll in 2012, suggesting that many Americans are now neutral when it comes to Clinton and Trump.
In another poll for Alternative Party candidates, Clinton continued to dominate with 42% of the votes, Trump had 37%, Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson had 8% and 2% of the votes supported Jill Stein of the Green Party.
The Clinton-Trump rivalry is the most closely watched presidential race in history. The odds seem to be in Clinton’s favor as the majority of Americans believe she will win. Trump has recently been at a disadvantage after the New York Times released his 1995 tax returns, revealing that he deliberately reported huge losses to avoid paying personal income tax for nearly 20 years.
Clinton and Trump will meet again in the second debate on Sunday night, October 9, US time, equivalent to tomorrow morning, October 10, Vietnam time. This debate continues to have important significance before the upcoming November 8 election./.
