A mother in Ohio (USA) welcomed a healthy baby boy into the world via C-section, just 30 minutes after discovering she was pregnant.

"I love children and want to be a mother someday," shared Ally Opfer, 23.

Opfer was hospitalized after experiencing abdominal pain. Initially, doctors thought she had kidney stones, but after an ultrasound, they discovered she was 38 weeks pregnant and about to give birth. Half an hour later, Opfer gave birth to a son, Oliver.Insider Edition News.

"I was shocked and truly couldn't believe it. I didn't realize how much I needed a child until I welcomed her," Opfer explained.

Before Opfer became pregnant, her monthly periods were irregular. Opfer noticed a delay in her period but didn't feel anything unusual in her body. Several pregnancy tests only came back negative.

"I was fine and showed no symptoms. Everything was normal," Opfer recalled.

Opfer sensed something was wrong when she experienced pains similar to menstrual cramps. Over two days later, the pain became so severe that she went to the hospital. Doctors performed several tests before confirming she was pregnant.

It was a surprise and a source of joy that Opfer experienced more than a year ago. Now, Opfer's son is one year old. His arrival still surprises her and her family.

"He's my best friend. The bond between us is really strong. Oliver follows me everywhere. We're always together whenever I'm home," Opfer said.

In an interview withFOX NewsOpfer admitted that she didn't eat healthily throughout her pregnancy, but she was fortunate not to drink alcohol or smoke.

There are currently no precise statistics on the number of women who give birth without knowing they are pregnant. A recent study showed that, among more than 7,000 pregnant women, one did not know she was expecting until the moment of delivery.

Opfer wasn't the first mother to experience an unexpected childbirth. On March 2nd, a British woman went into labor after experiencing abdominal pain. She didn't know she was pregnant until she was about to give birth. She delivered a baby boy while her boyfriend was calling an ambulance.BBCReport the news.

According to Dr. Patricia Devine, director of obstetrics at Columbia University Medical Center, unexpected births are extremely rare because pregnancy signs are not difficult to detect. However, in some cases, pregnant women may not know they are pregnant if they are obese. Obesity often leads to irregular menstrual cycles and slight weight gain. Teenage girls also tend to deny being pregnant. Even adult mothers, lacking mental and emotional preparation, may be unaware of their pregnancy, despite experiencing some familiar symptoms. Furthermore, those unfamiliar with the most common signs such as missed periods, weight gain, nausea, or breast tenderness may only find out at the time of delivery.

When planning to get pregnant, you should have regular checkups with a trusted doctor to ensure you are best prepared for your baby. Opfer's case shows that store-bought pregnancy tests are not 100% accurate.
