Earlier, on the night of August 13th, Ms. Diem (29 years old) was riding her motorbike on Phan Dang Luu Street (Binh Thanh District) when a young man carrying Ly on his motorbike overtook her and snatched her gold necklace. After a moment of panic, the young woman silently followed the robbers. After speeding for a short distance, Ly's motorbike slowed down, and they calmly rode through the street.
Approaching the supermarket on Dinh Tien Hoang Street, Ms. Diem suddenly rushed forward, pulled Ly down, and shouted for help. At this moment, Mr. Nguyen Vinh (a reporter from the Ho Chi Minh City Police Newspaper), who was nearby, along with other people, rushed to apprehend Ly and seize the evidence.
The young man accompanying her stopped the car for a moment, allegedly intending to rescue Ly, but seeing the crowd, he sped away.
Initially, investigators determined that Ly had recently been released from prison after serving a 2-year and 6-month sentence for robbery. Police are currently searching for his accomplice.
