VCB shares continued to play a leading role, while PNJ remained the focal point with volatile trading activity.

Opening the trading session on the morning of July 31st, the market started quite positively, with the VN-Index at one point approaching the 1,770 point mark. However, the upward momentum gradually narrowed as divergent movements appeared on the electronic board, while the impetus from some large-cap stocks began to slow down.

Nevertheless, the banking sector continued to support the market. The strong performance of large-cap stocks such as MBB, CTG, BID, and especially VCB helped the VN-Index maintain its positive momentum, fluctuating around 1,755 points after more than an hour of trading.

Within the banking sector, VCB became the focal point, at one point reaching its ceiling price after announcing pre-tax profit for the second quarter of 2026 of approximately VND 17,420 billion, a 58% increase compared to the same period last year. The positive performance of this stock significantly contributed to the overall rise of the index.

Conversely, PNJ continued to experience significant fluctuations. The stock quickly fell sharply, hitting the floor price at the beginning of the session before partially narrowing its losses thanks to bargain hunting. After more than an hour of trading, PNJ had traded over 9.8 million shares, remaining among the most liquid stocks on the market.

Banking group: VCB (+5.56%), PTG (+2.3%), BID (+2.95%), MBB (+1.11%) and STB (+0.5%). Financial services group: VIX (+0.77%), SSI (-1.04%), VCI (-0.7%), VND (-2.35%) and MBS (-1.63%).

In the real estate sector, VHM (-0.61%), VIC (-0.14%), NVL (+0.38%), VRE (+2.06%) and VPI (-1.39%).

At the close of this morning's trading session, the VN-Index rose 4.51 points to 1,749.18 points (+0.26%) compared to the previous session. Meanwhile, the HNX-Index fell 273.07 points (-0.72%), equivalent to 1.98 points, and the UPCoM-Index fell 126.4 points (-0.02%), equivalent to 0.02 points.

Market liquidity reached VND 9,814.42 billion, with 396,000 shares traded. Across the sector, 122 stocks increased, 175 decreased, and 55 fell to their reference price.

According to experts at Kirin Securities Joint Stock Company, the VN-Index rose for the third consecutive session. A notable point in yesterday's session was the relatively large increase in points and the spread across many sectors, no longer primarily concentrated in a few large-cap stocks as in the previous two sessions.

In addition, liquidity surged, reaching its highest level during the three consecutive days of gains, with trading volume exceeding the 20-day average by 16.5%.

The flow of money allocated to rising stocks completely overwhelmed that of falling stocks, indicating that investor sentiment has become more optimistic.

Yesterday's rally showed many positive signs, indicating that the previous downward trend has slowed down; however, a clear reversal signal has not yet been confirmed. The VN-Index needs to break through the resistance level of 1,760 - 1,780 points with high liquidity to confirm a reversal.

Therefore, investors should maintain a cautious stance, limit new purchases during subsequent upward sessions, and consider selling off a portion of their stock holdings when the VN-Index approaches the upper resistance level.
