Famous coffee shop sells more than 17 tons of fake coffee to the market
In just a few months, the Da Thao brand coffee production facility has released more than 17 tons of fake coffee to the market, earning nearly 1.3 billion VND.
On June 9, the Investigation Police Agency of Phu Yen Province Police issued a decision to prosecute the accused, apply measures prohibiting her from leaving her place of residence and an exit ban against Ms. Dang Thi Hoa Hiep (born in 1972, residing in Tay Hoa district, Phu Yen; owner of Dai Chung - Da Thao Private Enterprise) for the crime of "Producing and trading in counterfeit food products".
Authorities have searched the production facility of Dai Chung - Da Thao Private Enterprise in Phu Thu town (Tay Hoa district), which is also where Ms. Hiep lives.
Previously, through the work of grasping the situation, the Economic Police Department of Phu Yen Province Police discovered that the processing and trading of Da Thao brand coffee of this enterprise had many unusual signs, so they established a special project to fight.
On April 11, authorities conducted an administrative inspection at the facility and temporarily seized 6,845 bags of ground coffee (total weight of more than 3.45 tons), 1 pickup truck with license plate 78C-064.94, along with many production and packaging equipment and containers of additives used in coffee processing.
After collecting documents, evidence and requesting an appraisal, the investigation agency determined that from December 2024 to April 2025, Dai Chung - Da Thao Private Enterprise adjusted the production formula, reducing the caffeine content in Da Thao branded ground coffee products, which was not consistent with the announced quality.
The total amount of coffee produced by this enterprise during the above period was more than 21 tons, equivalent to 42,187 products. Of which, more than 17.6 tons, equivalent to 35,342 products, were sold to the market, earning nearly 1.27 billion VND. The rest was seized by the authorities.
Ms. Hiep admitted to producing and trading coffee that did not meet the announced quality, falsifying product quality, causing damage to consumer rights. Ms. Hiep voluntarily paid 590 million VND to remedy the consequences.
