Billiards players Quyet Chien and Hoang Sao have been nominated for the prestigious award.
Vietnam's two top billiards players in pool and 3-cushion carom, Duong Quoc Hoang (Hoang Sao) and Tran Quyet Chien (Tony Tran), have recently been nominated for the 2024 Victory Cup Award, considered the Oscar of Vietnamese sports.
This should have been very good news for the Vietnamese billiards community, as the achievements of both Quyet Chien and Quoc Hoang in 2024 have been recognized. However, unnecessary controversies have arisen regarding the category in which Hoang "Sao" and Quyet Chien were nominated.
Accordingly, Hoang Sao was nominated in the Male Athlete of the Year category, while Quyet Chien was not included. Vietnam's number one 3-cushion carom player is expected to be honored in the Team of the Year category along with his younger teammate Bao Phuong Vinh. Many believe that Quyet Chien is more deserving of the Male Athlete of the Year award, having won the World Cup twice and the World Team Championship in 2024.
