A 5-year-old child wandered 8 km from home because his father was distracted by his phone.
Preoccupied with his phone, the father let his 5-year-old child wander onto a busy road to find his mother. Only when he saw a missing child news report did this Chinese father realize it was his child.
The story takes place in Zhangjiagang, eastern Jiangsu province, China, where Mr. Hong was tasked with looking after his 5-year-old son, Kai Kai. However, engrossed in his phone, the father allowed his son to run out onto the main road, 8 kilometers from their home.

Fortunately, a nearby resident saw the boy and thought he was lost. After confirming this, the resident notified the local police.
When the police arrived, the boy was too young to remember his home address or his parents' phone number. Therefore, they took him to the police station and decided to publicize the incident on social media.

According to People's Daily Online, two hours after the announcement was posted (around 6 p.m. that same day), the boy's father called the Leyu police station to pick up his son.
According to Kai Kai, he was playing in the yard when he suddenly had the idea to go look for his mother. Street cameras captured Kai Kai running across the intersection and wandering through deserted streets, which is very dangerous for a 5-year-old child.
