(Baonghean.vn) - On August 23, Con Cuong district held a conference to review the project to preserve, maintain and promote the cultural identity of the Thai ethnic group in the period (2013 - 2017) and to review the project to build and develop tourism in the period 2013-2020.
Over the past 5 years, Con Cuong district has focused on collecting, restoring, preserving and maintaining tangible and intangible culture. Folk songs, dances, festivals such as celebrating new rice, gas khan, and praying for crops... have been included in competitions and performances at all levels and have been highly appreciated.

In particular, in preserving and promoting tangible culture, Con Cuong district has collected and preserved artifacts with typical Thai cultural characteristics such as musical instruments, developed craft villages producing brocade costumes, jewelry, household items, and folk games, both meeting the needs of sightseeing and learning, and increasing the income of the people.
The above activities contribute to the movement of the whole people uniting to build a cultural life in residential areas, effectively building new rural areas, improving the material and spiritual life of the people, preventing social evils, pushing back superstitious customs, thereby promoting the movement of learning promotion clans and cultural clans. Currently, the rate of villages achieving the title of cultural village has reached 57.5%.
In recent years, the district has planned and invested in infrastructure at tourist attractions such as Kem waterfall, Nuoc Moc stream, Pha Lai dam on Giang river, Bia Ma Nhai, Pu Mat national park, community tourism... attracting thousands of visitors to Con Cuong. In the first 6 months of 2017 alone, the district attracted more than 7,400 visitors, with total revenue from accommodation, food and beverage, and travel services estimated at VND22.5 billion, up 11.4% over the same period.

The conference also discussed and proposed solutions to preserve and promote cultural identity associated with tourism development to improve people's lives. That is, the Thai people need to preserve their own language and writing, preserve and promote the use of costumes, customs and practices, promote the development of traditional craft villages, take advantage of the existing strengths of the locality, focus on developing the handicraft weaving industry, promote and introduce local products and products to tourists, restore festival activities, especially the Mon Son - Luc Da festival with strong traditional features, especially develop tourism associated with preserving and promoting cultural values, focusing on developing spiritual cultural tourism.
At the same time, a specific plan has been proposed to restore the traditional stilt houses of Con Cuong district and build a biosphere symbol of Western Nghe An to create a highlight for Con Cuong district.
