Con Cuong: Authorities allow children to stay home from school to avoid flooding.

(Baonghean.vn) - The prolonged heavy rains and floods have damaged many crop areas in Con Cuong district. All kindergartens and other schools near streams have been notified to close.

Rising stream levels have made it difficult to navigate many flooded bridges.

Continuous rain has fallen over the past two days in Con Cuong district. Heavy downpours lasting from 10 PM to 3 AM on September 14th caused river and stream levels to rise. Many rice fields belonging to local farmers were submerged.

According to local residents, many rice paddies along the streams in Chi Khe commune have been devastated by flash floods and are beyond recovery. A specific assessment of the damage is not yet available.

Many houses in Khe Lo village, Mon Son commune, were flooded.

According to information from the Luc Da commune authorities, in addition to some rice fields being flooded due to the rising water level of Khe Moi stream, there were times when the Khe Moi bridge in the commune was submerged, making it impossible for vehicles to cross the stream.

In Mon Son commune alone, the heavy rain also washed away the temporary bridge across Thai Son and Nam Son villages. The floods also caused a stilt house with concrete pillars in Lang Yen village to collapse.

Many students were given the day off from school but still went out to play by the stream as the floodwaters were rising.

Due to the complex weather situation, the Con Cuong district authorities have announced that preschools are closed on September 14th; primary and secondary schools near streams have also been notified to temporarily close for safety reasons. All teachers have been mobilized to be on duty to combat flooding.
