Due to her difficult circumstances, Ms. Th. always longed for a job to earn money to support her family. However, her legitimate wish was deceived by her lover. He had the heart to sell his girlfriend abroad to another man to marry. His daughter suddenly disappeared, and the poor father searched for her…
For money, even sell lover
The People's Court of Nghe An province has just opened a trial for the defendant Cut Kham Huong (born in 1995), residing in Huu Kiem commune, Ky Son district, for the crime of "Human trafficking". The case in which the defendant committed the crime occurred nearly 10 years ago, but the painful and humiliating memories of the two victims who were tricked and sold by Huong are still there. Especially for Ms. Chich Thi Th. (born in 1999, residing in Bao Nam commune, Ky Son district), the humiliation is even more multiplied because she is the defendant's lover.

Going back in time 10 years ago, Ms. Th. was only 16 years old. Although they lived in two different communes, after a period of getting to know each other, she and Huong fell in love. After that, Huong went to Mong Cai City (Quang Ninh) to work for hire. While working there, Huong met a woman named Ly (unknown background and address). This person invited her to find women to sell to China as wives for 90 million VND in "commission", so Huong returned to her hometown to find "prey".
In July 2015, when meeting her lover in her hometown, Huong heard Ms. Th. confide about her family's difficulties and her desire to work to earn money. At this time, the guy immediately had the idea of tricking and selling his lover abroad. Huong lied to her girlfriend that she would earn a lot of money by working in China. When her girlfriend nodded, the guy also told Ms. Th. to invite her friend, Ms. Moong Thi Kh. (born in 1999, residing in Bao Nam commune) to go with her.
After that, Huong took her lover and Ms. Kh. to Mong Cai City. There, a woman arranged by Ly picked up all three people to go to China through an illegal route.
At Ly's house, Cut Kham Huong sold his lover and Ms. Kh. for 182 million VND and told the two girls that "if you stay and marry a Chinese man, you will bring 90 million VND to each family". Although frightened, because they had no other choice, the two girls did not dare to protest.
About 2 weeks later, Ly sold Ms. Th. to a man in Hebei Province (China) to be his wife for 195 million VND. Ms. Kh. was sold to a man in Beijing for 240 million VND. In this case, Huong profited 182 million VND, while Ly profited 253 million VND.
After 5 years of being sold, in October 2020, Ms. Th. was allowed by her husband's family to return to Vietnam to visit her family. Ms. Moong Thi Kh. did not return home until February 2024. In March 2024, the two victims filed a complaint against Cut Kham Huong for human trafficking to the police. When she learned that her actions had been exposed, Huong turned herself in to the police.
Poor father travels far and wide to find his son
At the trial, the defendant expressed remorse and confessed to his crimes. Defendant Huong said that because she was blinded by the large amount of money, she took the two victims to China to sell.
The defendant admitted that he and Ms. Th. had once been in love. After successfully selling his girlfriend, the defendant returned to his hometown, married another girl, and had three children. Huong lived locally as if she had never caused any trouble until the victim returned home and filed a complaint with the police.

In the presence of the victims, the defendant bowed his head and apologized. However, the apologies of the trafficker could not ease the humiliation that the two girls had to go through.
According to the victims, after being taken to China, they both realized they had been tricked. Although they did not agree, they were still sold to local men to be their wives. The man who bought Ms. Kh. lived in a mountainous area, where life was difficult. Because he was afraid that she would run away, her husband and his family restricted her from going out.
After nearly 10 years of being sold, Ms. Kh. gave birth to two children. Since having children, her life has become easier. However, Kh. always longs to return to her family and loved ones.
As for Th.’s family, since the day their daughter was tricked and sold, relatives have searched everywhere. Th.’s father shared that at first they thought their daughter was missing or kidnapped. Feeling sorry for her, he quickly sold a pig, a brood of chickens, etc. to get money to look for her. After asking friends, he went to some neighboring communes to look for her. Knowing that Huong was his daughter’s lover, he searched for her to ask for information but got no results.

Some time later, the family learned that their daughter was in China and had been sold to someone to be married. Feeling sorry for her, who was still young but had been sold, he tried to find a way to connect with Th. It was not until 2020 that his daughter was able to return to reunite with her family.
After experiencing a major life event, the girl suffered a lot of mental trauma. To forget her humiliating past, she went to the northern provinces to make a living, working in a company. Attending the trial, the victims requested that the defendant compensate them 90 million VND.
The panel of judges determined that the defendant's criminal acts were dangerous to society, directly infringing on the freedom, honor, and dignity of women, considering women as commodities to be exchanged and bought and sold for illegal profits, so the defendant must bear criminal responsibility for his actions. The court sentenced Cut Kham Huong to 8 years in prison for the crime of "Human trafficking". Regarding the civil part, the court ordered the defendant to compensate each victim 90 million VND.
Although the trafficker had to pay for his crime, the past of nearly 10 years of being tricked and sold, living a miserable life in a foreign land, is still a haunting memory for the victims. From this case, women, especially girls, need to be more vigilant against the "easy work, high salary" scam to avoid falling into the trap of bad guys.
