According to The Financial Times on January 11, besides Ivanka Trump, another potential candidate for the position of World Bank President is former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley. Other figures being considered include US Deputy Treasury Secretary David Malpass and Director of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Mark Green.

Meanwhile, the French news agency AFP reported that the US Treasury Department has not yet responded to information regarding the candidate for the World Bank presidency. A spokesperson for the US Treasury Department only stated that several nominations have been received.

Earlier, World Bank President Jim Yong Kim abruptly announced his resignation on January 7th, while still having three years left in his term.

In 2017, Ivanka Trump contributed significantly to raising $1 billion for the World Bank to support women in entrepreneurship.

The United States has traditionally been one of the World Bank's largest donors and has been given the power to choose the leadership of this financial institution, which was established after World War II.

The World Bank announced on January 10th that it will begin accepting nominations for the presidency in early February and expects to announce its final choice to replace Jim Yong Kim by mid-April.

Since its founding, the World Bank's president has always been an American citizen, but President Barack Obama broke this tradition in 2012 when he appointed Jim Yong Kim – who was born in Seoul, South Korea – as president of the World Bank.
