On July 26, 2018, Tan Ky District Police announced: The unit has just prosecuted the accused Le Van Hung, (born 1979), residing in Do Luong hamlet, Tan An commune for the crime of "Extortion of property".

Previously, on June 13, Tan Ky District Police received a complaint from 4 residents: Nguyen Thi K. (born 1952), Nguyen Thi Ng. (born 1952), Nguyen Thi N. (born 1984) and Hoang Thi Ng. (born 1986), all residing in Tan An Commune (Tan Ky).

At the time, these 4 people were selling goods at the market at the intersection of Tan An commune when a stranger came and cursed, threatened, and even tried to destroy the goods that the people there were selling.

After causing chaos at the market, this guy also forced each person to pay him 40,000 VND, otherwise he would beat them. Seeing him so aggressive, many people were scared and handed over the money as he demanded. And most people said, this was not the first time this guy caused trouble and asked for money at the market, he even openly extorted property.

Receiving a complaint from the people, the leaders of Tan Ky District Police decided to establish Project 618D to combat and prevent this type of crime.

The detectives collected information and documents about the identity and background of the person who caused the disturbance and extorted property from the people. More than a day after receiving the report, the Investigation Committee identified the person who caused the above actions that caused public outrage as Le Van Hung (born in 1979), residing in Do Luong hamlet, Tan An commune.

At 7 p.m. on June 14, Tan Ky District Police arrested the suspect as he was preparing to repeat his old tricks at the market. When arrested, he was very aggressive and fought back fiercely.

Hung had been addicted for many years and had three previous convictions for intentional injury, illegal possession of drugs and gambling. At the investigation agency, the subject initially confessed to all his actions. Hung said that due to his severe addiction, every time he had a seizure, in order to have money to buy heroin, he would recklessly go to the middle of the market to threaten and extort property from small traders.

Currently, the Investigation Police Agency of Tan Ky District Police has issued a decision to prosecute the case and prosecute Le Van Hung for the act of extortion.
