Son earns billions of dong annually from flower arranging.
From a young age, he loved music and flowers. As he grew up, he decided to make a living from those two hobbies, but ultimately found more success in flower arranging and makeup, earning nearly 1 billion VND annually from this profession.
Many young people in the mountainous city of Kon Tum dream of having a busy but well-paying life like Le Thoai Vuong (31 years old), the owner of Tiamo flower shop and a makeup and wedding dress rental business.
However, few people know about the arduous experiences this young man went through in Saigon more than 10 years ago. Vuong recounts that, confident in his musical knowledge acquired since the age of 5, he applied to the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music after graduating from high school. Unexpectedly, he failed the entrance exam and had to study at the intermediate level. Vuong studied there for a while before quitting.
"After moving to Saigon, having loved flowers since I was a child, I decided to learn flower arranging," Vuong recalled. Since then, her "flower arranging career" has stayed with her until now. The shop where she studied was full of men. She would wake up at 4 a.m. to go to the shop and wouldn't leave until sunset. "Staying indoors all the time, sometimes I'd be surprised to realize it'd been a long time since I'd seen the sun," Vuong recounted. But it was those days that gave her a "golden touch" in flower arranging.

Having mastered flower arranging, Vuong worked diligently to earn money for expenses, and later saved up capital to switch to learning makeup artistry. Initially, Vuong was a little hesitant: who would want a man to learn makeup artistry? However, later, Vuong realized that this profession was unique and therefore "hot," easily attracting attention, and the most important thing was to learn it well and become proficient in it to establish himself and his career. With that determination, the young man from the mountain town succeeded and by the end of 2007 returned to Kon Tum City to open a flower shop and bridal makeup studio.
In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year of 2016, customers from both within and outside the province flocked to order orchid potted plants from Vuong. The number of customers increased daily, forcing Vuong to turn down some orders just to make ends meet, and also because "if I accept an order, I have to do it, and if I do it, it has to be beautiful to maintain my reputation."
According to Vuong's method of cultivating orchids, each pot contains an average of 21 stems, with a minimum of 17 and a maximum of 39 stems, calculated according to the cycle of "birth, aging, illness, and death." "All my Phalaenopsis orchids are high-quality varieties from Da Lat, Ecuador, the Netherlands, Thailand, Taiwan… so they are expensive: from 2 to 7 million VND per pot," Vuong said.
Actually, Vuong also likes to make more for customers, but he's stuck because the orchids didn't bloom much last year, so he had to give up. Besides that, he imported 10,000 stems of tulips, lilies, roses, chrysanthemums, carnations, orchids, etc., for Tet (Lunar New Year) to sell as cut flowers and to build pots for sale. He sold them all in just two days, the 27th and 28th of the 12th lunar month, not a single stem left.
During the Lunar New Year holidays, Vuong runs a flower arrangement business, selling all kinds of flowers, but only high-quality ones. Every day, he creates and sells potted flowers, flower baskets, and flower arrangements. After deducting expenses, Vuong earns a profit of over 10 million VND per month.
In addition to her bridal makeup shop and wedding dress rental business, every day, Vuong starts working at 4 a.m. and doesn't finish until 7 or 8 p.m., not to mention waking up at 1 a.m. to prepare flowers for customers and do makeup for brides to be on time for their weddings.
At Vuong's makeup and wedding dress rental shop, there are 8 employees, including 6 makeup artists, each earning between 3 and 6 million VND per month, not including bonuses, travel allowances, and food expenses. Regarding income, Vuong stated that he earns nearly 1 billion VND annually.
