Son breaks into mother's house and steals a sack full of money.
According to Hiep's confession, he broke into his mother's house to steal property because he needed money to pay off debts.
On January 8th, the Criminal Police Department (PC45 - Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Police) announced that they are temporarily detaining Vu Hai Hiep (36 years old, residing in Xuyen Moc commune, Xuyen Moc district) for investigation into the act of theft.

Previously, Ms. D.TM (76 years old, residing in Nhan Duc hamlet, Xuyen Moc commune) reported that her family had been robbed of approximately 1.3 billion VND and 15,000 USD.
After receiving the report, the authorities of the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Police examined the scene, collected evidence, and took statements from those involved. The investigating agency concluded that the perpetrator could only be a relative of Ms. M.
While the police were searching for the thief, in the early morning of January 7th, Mr. VVT (Mrs. M.'s son) discovered a discarded sack in a bush by the roadside about 200 meters from his house. Inside the sack was a large sum of money in various denominations.
The police have seized the sack for investigation purposes. Upon inspection, the sack contained over $17,000 USD, 600 Canadian dollars, and over 1 billion Vietnamese dong. During the investigation, Vu Hai Hiep (Mrs. M.'s son) admitted to stealing the aforementioned assets.

After taking the money and hiding it, Hiep returned to his mother's house and used bolt cutters to cut the window frame in order to create a false crime scene.
On January 5th and 6th, seeing the police arrive to examine the crime scene and conduct an investigation, and knowing he would be discovered, Hiep threw the sack of money into a bush by the roadside and told everyone that he had seen two young men discard a sack of money, and then went with his family to retrieve it.
