Lu Van Duc went to the hill to buy drugs to resell for profit. To avoid detection by the police, he hid some of the drugs in his parents' house.
On April 24, the People's Court of Nghe An province held a first-instance trial to hear the case against Lu Van Duc (34 years old), residing in Chau Phong commune, Quy Chau district (Nghe An province), for the crime of "illegally trading narcotics".
According to the indictment, on the afternoon of December 2, 2024, Lu Van Duc walked up a hill in Pao village, Quang Phong commune, Que Phong district to buy from a Mong person: one package of heroin and one package of methamphetamine for 10.8 million VND.

After purchasing the drugs, Duc brought them home, divided them into smaller portions, and hid them in various locations to resell for profit. He hid some of it on his bed, and the rest he took to his parents' kitchen to conceal.
On the morning of December 4th, Lu Van Duc sold two methamphetamine pills for 100,000 VND to an addict for personal use.
At 7 PM the same day, while Duc was sitting on his bed, he was caught red-handed by a task force from the Quy Chau District Police, who seized several packages of drugs.
Based on Duc's confession, the police seized more packages of drugs at his parents' house. The investigating agency determined that Lu Van Duc is criminally liable for the act of buying and selling more than 41 grams of various types of drugs.
At the trial, the defendant confessed to buying drugs to resell for profit. To avoid detection by the police, the defendant hid some packages of drugs in his parents' house without their knowledge. Regarding the money from drug trafficking, the defendant claimed it came from his employment.
The panel of judges determined that the defendant's actions violated the law, and that drugs are the root cause of all other crimes, therefore requiring strict punishment. Consequently, the court sentenced defendant Lu Van Duc to 15 years in prison for the crime of illegally trading narcotics.
Regarding the individual who purchased the drugs from Duc, since he had already consumed them all, the authorities imposed an administrative penalty.
