Son steals nearly 10 taels of gold from family to gamble, arrested after 24 hours.
To get money for gambling and personal expenses, Vi Van Hanh (residing in Quy Chau commune) stole nearly 10 taels of gold from his family, sold it for 150 million VND, and then fled to Que Phong commune. Just 24 hours after receiving the report, the Quy Chau commune police arrested Hanh for theft.
On January 8th, the Quy Chau Commune Police announced that they have initiated a criminal case and charged Vi Van Hanh (born in 2000), residing in Ke Ninh village, Quy Chau commune, with theft of property.

Previously, on January 1, 2026, the Quy Chau Commune Police received a report from a woman in Ke Ninh village, Quy Chau commune, regarding a burglary in her bedroom where nearly 10 taels of gold, worth a total of 150 million VND, were stolen. The gold was the family's savings accumulated over many years, along with gold sent by the homeowner's daughter for safekeeping. The area where the theft occurred is mostly populated by people working in the forest for days at a time, and this was the first time such a large-scale theft had occurred in Ke Ninh village, causing widespread concern and anxiety among the residents.
Recognizing the seriousness of the incident, the Quy Chau Commune Police quickly launched an investigation. Just 24 hours after receiving the report, the Quy Chau Commune Police clarified the case and arrested Vi Van Hanh for theft while he was hiding in Que Phong Commune.
Notably, Hanh is the son of the homeowner whose house was burglarized. According to the investigation, in order to obtain money for gambling and personal expenses, Hanh told his family he was working in Que Phong, then took a bus back to Quy Chau to break into his family's bedroom and steal nearly 10 taels of gold, which he sold for 150 million VND. He then gambled it all away online. During the commission of the crime, Hanh even staged a fake crime scene to mislead the police.
