Trump's son to testify before Congress

Donald Trump Jr., President Donald Trump's son, and a former campaign manager will testify before Congress next week.

Donald Trump Jr. and Paul Manafort will testify publicly before the US Senate Judiciary Committee at 10am on July 26, AFP reported. Both attended a meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya in 2016 in the hope of receiving information that would be detrimental to Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump's opponent in the race for the White House.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley and Dianne Feinstein, the committee's top Democrat, wrote a letter asking them to "preserve all documents... related to Russian interference in the 2016 US election."

Jared Kushner, President Trump's son-in-law, also testified, but not publicly, before the Senate Intelligence Committee on July 24, CNN quoted Kushner's lawyer as saying. Kushner also attended the meeting with Veselnitskaya.

Trump Jr. surprised Washington by confirming the meeting. Trump Jr. released a series of emails in which he was informed that the Trump campaign could receive "high-level and sensitive information" and that this was "part of Russia's support for Trump."

The developments put Trump Jr. and Kushner at the center of investigations into allegations that Trump's aides colluded with Russia to help him gain an advantage over Clinton.
