According to investigators, the suspect usually reads online newspapers to keep up with news about public security and order. When he sees that someone is about to be brought to trial, he tries to approach the victim's family and impersonates a police officer.
Ten days ago, Thong, who held the rank of lieutenant, approached Mrs. Thien and claimed to be an officer at the detention center of the Vinh Loi District Police (Bac Lieu). Because her husband was imprisoned there, when Thong suggested "fixing the case," the woman wanted his help.
Afterward, Thông sent the victim's family his personal bank account number. Despite being poor, Mrs. Thiện still borrowed 5 million VND to transfer to Thông. After receiving the money, the imposter posing as a police officer turned off his phone to cut off contact with the victim.
Realizing she had been deceived, Ms. Thien filed a complaint with the investigative agency. Thong was subsequently arrested by the police while hiding in Ca Mau.
