Nghe An police arrest suspect for online driver's license renewal scam.
Nguyen Van Hung (born in 1992), residing in Quang Xuong district, Thanh Hoa province, was arrested and prosecuted by Tan Ky district police (Nghe An province) for posting content on social media offering to handle applications for driving license exams, renewals, and upgrades, and then defrauding people of their money.
Previously, through monitoring online activities, the Tan Ky District Police discovered that the Facebook account owner "Manh Hung" had posted content offering services to handle applications for driving license exams, renewals, upgrades, and restorations, exhibiting suspicious behavior indicative of fraudulent activities aimed at appropriating property.

Accordingly, many people in various provinces and cities across the country, including citizens of Tan Ky district (Nghe An province), contacted the aforementioned account holder to apply for driver's license exams and upgrade their licenses; many of them transferred money to the account as requested by the perpetrator.
Given the situation, the Tan Ky District Police reported to the Provincial Police leadership to establish a special task force to combat the crime.
During the investigation, the task force identified the owner of the aforementioned Facebook account as Nguyen Van Hung (born in 1992), residing in Quang Luu commune, Quang Xuong district, Thanh Hoa province. After gathering sufficient documents and evidence, on the evening of May 20, 2024, in Quang Luu commune, Quang Xuong district, Thanh Hoa province, the task force arrested Nguyen Van Hung for the crime of fraud and appropriation of property. The evidence seized from the suspect included one mobile phone containing the Facebook account "Manh Hung," which the suspect used to commit the crime.
At the police station, faced with irrefutable evidence, Nguyen Van Hung confessed to his crimes. He admitted that despite not having a stable job, he had introduced himself as a "driving instructor at a driving training and testing center; if you register to take the driving test or upgrade your license, you don't need to take the theory test, only the practical test, and everything will be taken care of from A to Z."
Through investigation, the Tan Ky District Police initially determined that Nguyen Van Hung had defrauded 15 victims in Tan Ky, Anh Son, and Con Cuong districts (Nghe An province) and 10 victims in Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Gia Lai, and Binh Phuoc provinces, appropriating over 300 million VND.
Currently, the investigation into this case is being expanded.
The Tan Ky District Police Department announces that anyone who is a victim of Nguyen Van Hung should contact the police to cooperate in resolving the matter.
