Police in Truong Vinh ward arrested a gambling ring consisting mostly of women.
The police in Truong Vinh ward, Nghe An province, have successfully dismantled a gambling ring operating through the game of "phỏm" (a Vietnamese card game) led by Nguyen Thi Phuong, arresting 8 related individuals.
Through intelligence gathering, the Crime Prevention and Control Team of Truong Vinh Ward Police discovered that many unfamiliar individuals frequently gathered on Dang Van Ngu Street (formerly in Hung Dung Ward), exhibiting suspicious behavior related to gambling activities.
The group operated in a sophisticated manner, employing lookouts, transporting gamblers, and frequently changing locations to fortified houses with "tiger cages" and surveillance cameras to evade law enforcement. Notably, participants were only allowed to join through introductions from acquaintances, and their phones were confiscated to prevent tracking.
After a period of coordinated operational measures, at approximately 4 PM on August 13, 2025, in the area of Dang Van Ngu Street, the ward police mobilized maximum forces, divided into multiple teams, and simultaneously raided the area.The ringleader was caught red-handed.Nguyen Thi Phuong (born in 1976, residing in Hai Loc commune, Nghe An province) and eight other individuals were caught gambling using the card game "phỏm". At the scene, law enforcement officers seized 30 million VND, nine mobile phones, and other related evidence.
At the police station, the suspects initially confessed to their illegal actions.
Currently, the Truong Vinh Ward Police are completing the procedures and processing the suspects according to the law.
