Police are searching for the district chairman due to his unusual absence.

Quoc Oai District has requested the Hanoi City Police to search for Mr. Nguyen Hong Lam, Chairman of the District People's Committee, who has been absent from the office for nearly a week.

Speaking to the press this evening, the Secretary of the Quoc Oai District Party Committee, Nguyen Van Tho, confirmed that Mr. Nguyen Hong Lam has not been to the office and his phone has been switched off since December 26, 2017.

Mr. Tho said that the district had reported to the City Party Committee and the City People's Committee about the unusual "disappearance" of the District Chairman for nearly a week.

"The city police are actively searching for Mr. Lam. Any related issues will have to wait for the results of the police investigation," Mr. Tho said.

According to Mr. Tho, on December 26, 2017, the district held a meeting, and Mr. Lam requested to be absent from this meeting; he did not submit a request for extended leave.

After noticing that Mr. Lam did not show up for work, the district leaders tried to contact him, but his phone was switched off. Mr. Lam's family has reported his "disappearance."
