Police investigate passion fruit vandalism in Que Phong

Following the incident of more than 1,200 passion fruit trees in the production area of Nafoods Passion Fruit Joint Stock Company being cut down on August 10, 2017, people in Pich Nieng village, Tri Le commune, Que Phong district (where the incident occurred) expressed their indignation at this destruction.

Through discussion, the villagers said that the root cause of this situation may stem from the compensation for 5 hectares of production land of the village that was confiscated in 2014, which has not yet been adequately compensated. The villagers also said that during the production process, the company used chemicals that polluted the living environment in the residential area of Pich Nieng village.
However, while those problems were not resolved, an unfortunate incident occurred, causing concern and worry among the people of Pich Nieng village.

"The incident of the Company's passion fruit trees being vandalized has made our Party cell and villagers very worried and surprised. We request that superiors quickly investigate and clarify this incident so that the villagers can stabilize their thoughts" - Mr. Cut Van Thu, Secretary of the Party cell of Pich Nieng village, suggested.
On the side of the representative of the leadership of Nafood Passion Fruit Joint Stock Company, they said that the continued acts of encroachment, especially the sabotage on the night of August 10, was a systematic and organized plan.
It is known that since the beginning of the year, property theft and vandalism have occurred quite a lot on the company's passion fruit and mung bean growing hills. This situation has caused the company about 1 billion VND in damage and affected security and order in the ethnic border area in Que Phong district. |
The incident not only caused serious economic damage, greatly affecting the company's production plan and development strategy, but also affected the province's major policy, which is to expand the passion fruit growing area of the whole province to 1,500 hectares by 2020, mainly concentrated in the two districts of Que Phong and Tuong Duong.
On the afternoon of August 23, speaking with Nghe An Newspaper, Mr. Le Van Giap, Chairman of Que Phong District People's Committee, affirmed that the act of cutting down passion fruit trees as above is an act of vandalism by bad guys, unacceptable. After receiving the company's report, Que Phong District People's Committee issued Official Dispatch No. 988 assigning the District Police Chief to direct the investigation and handling according to the provisions of law. "The spirit of the district is to resolutely find the perpetrators of the vandalism, bring them to trial before the law to stabilize the production situation of enterprises investing in the area, and stabilize the psychology of the people," Mr. Le Van Giap affirmed.
Lieutenant Colonel Dang Van Hieu, Deputy Chief of Que Phong District Police, said that immediately after the incident, the District Police established a working group of 6 comrades led by Lieutenant Colonel Vi Van Quang, Captain of the Criminal and Economic Police Team, to go to Tri Le commune to collect the scene, isolate the investigation area, and quickly bring this vandalism case to light.
