Photos of the Soviet Union's first ballistic missile production released
The Russian Space Systems Corporation (part of the Roscosmos state corporation) has published unique photos of the construction of the first Soviet long-range ballistic missile R-1, tested 70 years ago, the corporation's press service told reporters on Wednesday.

"The Russian Space Systems Corporation has just published a very valuable photo album, showing the history of the design and manufacture of the first Soviet long-range ballistic missile R-1, which was successfully tested 70 years ago. The photos of the missile control system components taken by specialists of NII-885 (now the Russian Space Systems Corporation) during the production and assembly process were collected into an album in 1950. Until now, this document has not been widely known to readers" - the announcement said.

It is known that the R-1 is a product similar to the German V2 rocket that Soviet experts, including NII-885 staff, conducted research on after the end of the war on German territory.

The decision of the Council of Ministers of the USSR on the creation of the R-1 rocket issued on May 13, 1946 marked the beginning of the Soviet space industry, becoming the founding date of many specialized companies, including NII-885.
