Land registry officials arbitrarily leased forest land, misappropriating assets.
Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh (born in 1970), a commune judicial official, has been charged and temporarily detained by the police for investigation into the crime of fraud and misappropriation of property.
On the afternoon of November 20th, the Bao Lam District Police executed a search warrant at the private residence of Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh, a judicial officer of Loc Lam commune, Bao Lam district (Lam Dong province), seizing numerous documents and a firearm.
According to initial investigations, during his time as a land administration official in Loc Phu commune, Bao Lam district, Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh arbitrarily set terms, regulations, and contracts with many local residents to sublease community forest land in Hamlet 4, Loc Phu commune.
Notably, this area of community forest land was reclaimed by the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee and handed over to the Bao Lam District People's Committee for management in 2020. Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh illegally profited a very large sum of money from leasing the land unlawfully.
The Bảo Lâm District Police are investigating and expanding the case.
