Last year, Alibaba and Ford signed a technology cooperation agreement. And now, Alibaba has just launched a Ford car rental machine in Guangzhou, China. This is an opportunity for customers to test drive the models before buying. Photo: Alibaba
Super Test-Drive Center is an automated car rental system. Through the Tmall app, users can easily select, deposit, and set a pick-up time. The identity check upon pick-up will be through a portrait photo taken at registration. All are free if the registrant has a citizen score of 700 or higher. Photo: Alibaba
In China, the government scores citizens using a social rating system. Alibaba’s score system, called Zhima or Sesame Credit, is closely tied to the government. Each person starts with 550 points and ranges from 350 to 900. Users with less than 700 points can pay a fee to use the service for a trial period. Photo: Alibaba
Once the system has verified the car, it is dropped off. Alibaba says the process should take no more than 10 minutes. Customers will be able to test drive the car for three days. Photo: Alibaba
Customers can use the cars to shop or travel as they please. Alibaba plans to build these automated stations across China and allow users to purchase cars through the company's affiliates with a 10% deposit. Photo: Alibaba
The convenient idea is not the first to appear. In 2015, a similar five-story automated station was built in Nashville (USA). Photo: Alibaba
