The world famous musical Carmen premiered

On the evening of November 8, at the Ho Chi Minh City Theater, for the first time, the city's audience enjoyed the classic musical Carmen, one of the most famous and most performed musicals in the history of world music.

The program is jointly produced by the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera and La Fabrique Opera Organization (France).

The musical Carmen is one of the special programs in the 2015 season of the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera, with elaborate investment, staged and conducted by the excellent French conductor Patrick Soullot. Participating in the main roles are two talented French opera singers: Sophie Leleu as Carmen and Olivier Trommenschlager as Don Jose.

There are also the best opera artists of the City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera such as: Meritorious Artist Tran Hong Vy, Pham Duyen Huyen, Pham Khanh Ngoc... along with the theater's symphony orchestra and the children's choir "Korean Children Voices".

When it was first released in March 1875, French composer Georges Bizet's Carmen was not well received in France. It was not until October 1875, when it was performed in Vienna, Austria, that the opera Carmen achieved resounding success, befitting the stature of a great work. Since then, the opera has been well received all over the world.

The musical Carmen is a tragic love story set in 1830 in Seville, Spain. Through the powerful and special language of music, the characteristics of Spanish culture at that time such as bullfighting, the underworld of smuggling, nomadic life, folklore, the army... were deeply and impressively portrayed. The music in Carmen has achieved great results, highly appreciated by experts, the concise structure, the skillful use of motifs, the warning... have created a great musical work.

However, Georges Bizet never experienced the success of Carmen as he died suddenly three months after its premiere. Carmen has inspired over 30 films, stage versions, ballets and musical suites. 2015 also marks the 140th anniversary of the great opera Carmen and the 140th anniversary of the death of composer Georges Bizet.

After the night of November 8, the musical Carmen will continue to be performed on the evening of November 9 at the Ho Chi Minh City Theater.
