Nghe An Trade Union joins hands to overcome storm and flood

Natural disasters and floods are always harsh challenges, not only destroying material things but also causing great mental shock to workers, especially families in difficult circumstances. In such times of hardship, the Trade Union at all levels has truly become a solid support, providing timely and practical support for union members and workers to stand up and rebuild their lives.

Heartwarming gestures after the storm

In the terrible flash flood in Western Nghe An, Huoi Xa village, Nhon Mai commune suffered heavy damage. The pain of loss was clearly shown on the face of Ms. Ngan Thi Luong - a union member and worker at Luxshare ICT Nghe An Co., Ltd. Her family, already in a difficult situation, was now completely empty-handed: House, crops, and property were swept away by floodwaters.

With tears in her eyes when receiving timely support from the Trade Union, Ms. Luong choked up and shared: “Seeing my house and everything being swept away, I thought I could not overcome it. The loss was so great, I did not know where to start again.”

Understanding Ms. Luong's situation, the grassroots Trade Union promptly proposed, and the Nghe An Provincial Labor Federation quickly decided to support her family with 50 million VND from the "Trade Union Shelter" Fund. This support is of great significance, as Ms. Luong emotionally affirmed: "This 50 million VND is not just money but a life buoy for my family."

This support helped Ms. Luong and her family to immediately start rebuilding their house and stabilizing their lives. Along with Ms. Luong, 12 other workers of the Company Ltd.LuxshareICT Nghe An, who suffered direct damage, was also awarded 2 million VND/person in support, drawn from the support fund of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.

Also in that timely chain of actions, Ms. Dang Thi Quyen - a single mother raising 2 young children, a worker at Nakano Vietnam Garment Company Limited, also received a charitable gift from the grassroots Union and the enterprise. Storm No. 10 completely blew off the roof of the small house of 3 mothers and children, causing serious damage. Faced with Ms. Quyen's particularly difficult situation, the Company's Union quickly mobilized the enterprise and all staff and workers to donate. The first 9 million VND was promptly sent to her to overcome the initial damage.

This prompt support has brought great comfort to the single mother, giving her more motivation to overcome the most difficult period. Her situation continues to be shared in the forums of the Trade Union. This is a testament to the spirit of mutual love, mutual support, and sharing not only among employees but also the responsible companionship of the Trade Union.

When the disaster passes, the environmental sanitation workers are the ones who have to work day and night, pioneering in cleaning and rebuilding urban spaces. They are the silent, diligent soldiers but also the ones who suffer the most hardship and fatigue. In the midst of facing the huge workload, the "Union Meal" Program of Nghe An Provincial Labor Federation and Nghe An Guest House has brought timely encouragement.

The grassroots union is the first place to receive and handle the difficulties and losses of union members. The spirit of mutual love and support has spread strongly from within the workers and employees. Typically, the Luxshare Nghe An grassroots union not only promptly proposed great support for union members like Ms. Ngan Thi Luong, but also extended its arms of sharing to the community. This unit directly visited and presented thousands of moon cakes to people in Hung Nguyen Nam and Bich Hao communes - places that are heavily affected by storms and floods, turning material gifts into warm words of encouragement and sharing. Similarly, the Cypress Shoe Company Limited Union, Woosin Vina Company Limited Union... also represented the Company and the collective of cadres, workers and employees to visit and encourage union members in especially difficult circumstances who suffered losses.

Not only taking care of its members, the Commune and Ward Trade Unions also play the role of a bridge of affection between units. In the context of storms and floods, the workers of Nghe An Bridge and Road Construction and Management Joint Stock Company promptly mobilized to clear National Highway 16. Accompanying these silent "soldiers", the Thai Hoa Ward Trade Union coordinated in a timely manner to support a meaningful lunch, giving strength to the workers. Not only that, understanding the situation of many workers having to stay at the construction site while their families were flooded, the Standing Committee of the Thai Hoa Ward Trade Union promptly visited and presented essential necessities to the affected union members' families. This is a support of double encouragement, both ensuring the common work and comforting the rear.

Responding to the call of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, many Trade Unions of communes and wards have mobilized donations to support people in flood-hit areas. Typically, the grassroots Trade Unions under the Dong Hieu Commune Trade Union have mobilized nearly 200 million VND in cash to support people in Western Nghe An who were damaged by storm No. 3. The meals of love, the necessities, and the community donations... have painted a vivid picture of the spirit of mutual love and support.

The timely and effective support of grassroots trade unions at all levels is also the result of a thorough and systematic policy from the superiors. Immediately after the storm No. 10 (Bualoi) in 2025 passed, the Provincial Labor Federation showed initiative and urgency in directing and implementing the work of overcoming the consequences. The Labor Federation issued an official document requesting the commune, ward and affiliated grassroots trade unions to quickly survey and grasp the living conditions of union members and workers and the damage caused by storms and floods (including property damage, the situation of businesses stopping production, union members losing their jobs). At the same time, closely coordinate with local authorities, units and businesses to overcome the consequences of storms, rains and floods; Participate in the working delegation of the Commune and Ward Front to visit, encourage and share with union members and workers affected.
