Nghe An Trade Union donates books and bicycles to workers' children

HOPE FROM THE PAGES OF BOOKS

Every summer, the office of the Dong Nam Economic Zone Union has a day full of books. There is not enough space on the table, so the Dong Nam Economic Zone union officials have to spread a tarp and sit on the floor to sort and pack them. These are gifts for the children of union members and workers who have overcome difficulties to study well. Because the number of students who have overcome difficulties to study well this year is higher than in previous years, the preparation of the awards is also more elaborate and difficult.

To complete this task, based on the list of children of union members and workers who have overcome difficulties to study well, the officials of the Dong Nam Economic Zone Union personally selected meaningful books, suitable for each age group, and then contributed to carefully decorate them. Most of these books have content about life lessons, human ethics, exploring the world, soft skills... Everyone's face is eager and proud, every hand is careful and skillful. Behind those meaningful gift packages are many other joys.

That is the joy of the workers of the Dong Nam Economic Zone union - tailors, mechanics, very ordinary workers. Despite their busy shift life and hand-to-mouth salary, they always try their best to create conditions for their children to study properly. Among them, many have extremely difficult circumstances, single parents, sick... Receiving gifts of books, boxes of cakes and bonuses to commend her child's academic achievements right at the factory, Ms. Thai Huong (Minh Anh Kim Lien Garment Joint Stock Company) excitedly said: "My child will definitely love this gift, he is studious and loves to read books but his parents are too busy to buy them for him often. The content and presentation in the book are also very unique and suitable for his age."

Sharing the same feeling, Ms. Ho Thi Minh confided with emotional eyes: “We can endure any hardship, just hoping that our children can study well, have the opportunity to develop and develop better. The recognition and care of the trade union organization is not only a reward to encourage the children to study hard but also has a great spiritual meaning for us as parents.”

The joy of the workers when receiving the gift is also the happiness of the program staff. In addition to books and artifacts, we also support cash rewards from 300,000 to 500,000 VND depending on each child's achievements. Not only recognizing cultural subjects, we also reward achievements in sports and talents. Through the gift, we still hope that the brothers and sisters, workers in industrial parks, will have more motivation, work hard, raise their children well, and nurture their dreams so that the next generation will confidently step into life with knowledge, independence, and responsibility for themselves and society."

This year, due to the complicated epidemic situation, the Trade Union of Dong Nam Nghe An Economic Zone gave 187 gifts with a total amount of 70 million VND to the children's parents instead of organizing a face-to-face meeting like previous years.

LOVE BICYCLES FOR CHILDRENWORKERS

Besides the program to honor children of union members and workers who have achieved high academic achievements, the Do Luong District Labor Union officials also have a very meaningful program called "Bicycles for children to go to school".

Originating from "Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style", the program was initiated in 2015 and has been maintained continuously until now. Accordingly, every month, union officials of the District Labor Federation voluntarily contribute to the agency's savings fund. At the end of the year, this amount will be used to buy bicycles for union members' children with especially difficult circumstances in the area. Usually, each month, each individual contributes 100,000 VND or deducts an amount of money as they wish each time they receive their salary, benefits, etc. to put into the fund. The amount is not large, but the accumulation brings great joy to union members' families and children.

Indeed, in the list of 8 union member families receiving bicycles in 2020, there are many heartbreaking cases. There is a case in the poor commune of Nhan Son, the father has chronic mental illness, the mother works at a garment factory, 3 sisters are in different grades, far from each other's schools but only have 2 bicycles so they have to arrange, take turns riding one day and walking the other. There is a case where the father has passed away, the single mother is struggling to raise her child, does not have a bicycle, every day the child has to ride a friend's bike...

Mr. Le Van Lai - Vice Chairman of the Do Luong District Labor Federation shared: "Because the circumstances of these families are very difficult, the gift is truly meaningful and effective. Every year when I give out the cars, I feel very moved when I witness the radiant joy on the children's faces. They cherish and are very excited about this gift."

From its special savings fund, the District Labor Federation usually gives out about 8-10 bicycles each year, each worth 1-1.2 million VND. After handing over the bicycles, the District Labor Federation also gives families the address of the supplier's dealer, so that if they want to change the color or model of the bicycle, they can go there and change it themselves. Realizing the practical significance of the program, manygrassroots unionsfollowed the Do Luong District Labor Federation, implementing fundraising to give bicycles to poor students in the area.

With the same purpose of sharing and supporting children, every year on the occasion of International Children's Day June 1, the Labor Federation of Nghia Dan district organizes visits and gives gifts to union members' children in especially difficult circumstances, disabled children, and children with serious illnesses.

Besides the programs that bear the unit's own mark, all levelsNghe An Trade Unionalso shows concern and encouragement to the future generation through many other annual programs such as giving gifts on children's holidays, organizing summer camps for workers' children, organizing tours... Even if it is just a small gift, a day trip or a word of encouragement and sharing, the sincere concern of the trade union organization for the children of union members has brought a lot of humane and meaningful joy.
