SPECIAL MEAL
The lunch on August 19, 2024 of more than 400 union members and employees of Em-Tech Vietnam Co., Ltd., Nghe An branch, was not like every other day. After lining up to enter the dining area, many workers were surprised when they pulled out their lunch trays with many new dishes compared to the daily menu, including fried shrimp, grilled spring rolls, salads... And they were surprised again when on the dining table there was a bowl of Southern beef noodle soup and a cup of cool cau flower tea.
Very soon, many people realized the special reason for these changes. On the main wall by the kitchen door hung a large poster. On the poster was the words “Union Meal”.
Accordingly, instead of each meal costing 20,000 VND as usual, the Vinh City Labor Federation has supported an additional 25,000 VND/meal, to give each worker a meal worth 45,000 VND. Many workers were delighted with this gift. They took pictures of the meal tray, made a "clinking" gesture to take a picture of the whole table, saved happy memories with colleagues and then "showed off" on Facebook.
The menu is not the only special thing about the “Union Meal”. It is also special because this is a “common meal” that is deployed simultaneously on the same day, at the same time for union members and workers in many enterprises and units across the province. In addition, all meals have the participation of representatives of business leaders, units and union officials at all levels.
In Dien Chau district, more than 2,000 union members and employees of Wooin Vina Co., Ltd. had dinner together with the Vice President of the Provincial Labor Federation and the company's Board of Directors. Instead of the usual 20,000 VND meal, today's meal cost 48,000 VND/meal with beef curry, ham, chicken, yogurt...
In Do Luong district, thousands of workers in 33 units and enterprises simultaneously organized meals in an exciting and joyful atmosphere. In Con Cuong district, the Provincial Labor Federation supported more than 28 million VND to ensure that the "Union Meal" program could be smoothly implemented at Minh Anh Con Cuong Garment Company...
The participation of the entire system not only raises the scale but also upgrades the professionalism of the Trade Union organization in Nghe An.
That special event was implemented from the policy of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, but few people know that the phrase "Union Meal" was first used and implemented in 2021 by union officials of the Nghe An Southeast Economic Zone Union. From the positive effect that the Southeast Economic Zone Union achieved, the program was expanded to the whole province and learned by other provinces. And this is not the only "pioneering" activity for Nghe An workers.
"LIGHT UP" WHAT PRIDE
With the keyword phrase “Workers salute the flag” on Google, search results almost only show the flag-raising activities at the beginning of the week of the union members and workers of Nghe An. The time this content was posted and shared the most was during the Workers' Month of 2024.
Remember the first days back to work after the 2024 Lunar New Year holiday, social networks shared a lot of emotional clips about the flag-raising ceremony of workers in the garment factory of Wooin Vina Co., Ltd. (Dien Chau). In that clip, all the workers wore red shirts with yellow stars, looked towards the national flag, and placed their hands on their hearts, full of emotion. From the perspective of many people, this clip was touching because of the seriousness and neatness of all the workers, and more specifically, it took place at an FDI enterprise.
Also from this clip, the idea of saluting the flag at the beginning of the week was born to be implemented simultaneously in all grassroots unions. Overcoming initial barriers, the staff of Nghe An Trade Union made efforts to persuade and propagate to realize that idea. As a result, in the Workers' Month of 2024, tens of thousands of union members, workers and laborers across Nghe An province together performed the flag-saluting ceremony at the beginning of the week with pride and emotion.
Ms. Pham Thi Thuy - a worker at Haivina Kim Lien Co., Ltd. shared: “When I saluted the flag as a worker, I myself did not expect to be so emotional and excited. When the national anthem was played, national pride and the desire to devote myself to the homeland and country were also urged…”.
In early August, Nghe An workers continued to have the opportunity to participate and assert themselves at the "Singing Festival of Civil Servants, Public Employees, and Workers". With the requirement that the participants are workers and direct laborers, the festival organizers have created a meaningful playground with many memorable experiences.
“I never thought that workers would have the opportunity to perform on a big stage, in such a large-scale and professional competition. We, the union members, workers and laborers, really shone, together creating beautiful memories and returning to work with pride as part of the Nghe An labor force,” Ms. Le Thi Hong Thi - a worker at Masan Company Limited (Nam Cam) emotionally said.
To bring the best performances to the festival, Ms. Thi and her co-actors, who are workers from many businesses, practiced for more than a month in the factory outside of working hours. Before the performance day, from Hoang Mai, Nam Cam, VSIP, Bac Vinh, all gathered at the Southeast Economic Zone Management Board to rehearse the performance.
Sharing about the spirit of participation of workers, Ms. Hoang Thi Thu Huong - President of the Trade Union of the Southeast Economic Zone said: "They are all the core arts at the grassroots level, participating responsibly, making efforts and being highly appreciated by the choreographers and singing teachers for their awareness. For them to be present at the festival, the leaders of the enterprises also created favorable conditions, not only flexible in terms of time but also had individual support policies for each person. Through this event, I believe thatpatriotism, the class pride of the workers will be much greater".
Recently, before the September 2nd holiday, from the launch of some grassroots trade unions, the image of Nghe An workers once again moved many people when "dyed red"Factory with national flag.
Sharing about the new, creative, impressive and powerful programs of the working class recently, Mr. Le Van Son - Chairman of the Trade Union of Haivina Kim Lien Company Limited said: “I have never seen the workforce and labor force being cared for by so many meaningful and practical activities as this period. We may be different in terms of profession, location, model and nature, but through the activities, we have an invisible connection, a strong and proud connection. I believe that the workforce and the Nghe An Trade Union will have new and more outstanding steps forward in the coming time!”.
