In the final days of the year, the sugarcane fields in the former Tan Ky area are bustling with activity. Sugarcane is being harvested urgently to ensure it is delivered to the factory on time for crushing in the new season.
Amidst the hustle and bustle of work, joy is evident on the faces of the sugarcane farmers as the crop they have been cultivating for many years continues to provide a stable source of income, allowing them to feel secure in staying on their land.
Mr. Hoang Van Chung, residing in Van Long hamlet, Giai Xuan commune, is one of the long-time sugarcane farmers. Having been involved in sugarcane cultivation for over a decade, Mr. Chung stated that despite fluctuating market prices, sugarcane remains an "easy-to-grow" crop, well-suited to the local soil conditions, and especially enjoys relatively stable demand thanks to his connection with processing plants.
"Growing sugarcane eliminates the worry of bumper harvests followed by price drops. As long as proper care is followed and pests and diseases are proactively controlled, a good yield ensures a stable income for the family. Thanks to businesses guaranteeing the purchase of the sugarcane, farmers don't have to worry as much as with many other crops," Mr. Chung shared.
According to Mr. Chung, with his family's 1.5 hectares of sugarcane, properly invested in, the yield reaches 80-100 tons per hectare. After deducting expenses such as seeds, fertilizers, land preparation, and harvesting, each hectare of sugarcane brings in tens of millions of dong in net profit. This income allows his family to manage living expenses, invest in reinvestment, and gradually improve their quality of life. Compared to many other crops, sugarcane provides a consistent income year after year with less risk. Thanks to this, his family has the means to renovate their house, raise their children, and feel secure in their long-term commitment to farming.
Mr. Chung's family story reflects the common reality of many sugarcane farmers in the area. The stability of output and income has motivated farmers to invest in mechanization, adopt technological advancements, and move towards sustainable production.
Create policies to support sugarcane farmers.
In this year's sugarcane season, Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company officially began crushing on December 4th. Currently, the factory maintains stable production with a capacity of 3,000 – 3,300 tons of sugarcane per day. To meet market demands, the company has invested in upgrading its production lines, focusing on improving product quality and gradually enhancing its competitiveness.
According to information from Song Con Sugar Company, for the 2025-2026 sugarcane crop season, the company will purchase raw sugarcane at the field price of 1,020,000 VND/ton for grade 1 sugarcane. This price is slightly lower than the previous crop season. However, in the context of unfavorable weather conditions, prolonged rain and storms affecting sugarcane growth and causing a general decrease in yield and sugar content, the current purchase price is considered a timely support from the company, helping sugarcane farmers maintain production.
Thanks to the synchronized implementation of support policies, the raw material area of Song Con Sugar Company Limited has continuously expanded year after year. By building trust and long-term relationships with farmers, the area of sugarcane raw materials is steadily increasing. In the 2025-2026 sugarcane season, the company's total standing sugarcane area is expected to reach over 6,000 hectares, with an estimated sugarcane output of approximately 375,000 tons delivered to the factory, meeting production needs and creating a foundation for the stable and sustainable development of the enterprise and the raw material area.
Recognizing that sustainable raw material development is a key factor, linking the interests of the enterprise with sugarcane growers, in recent years, Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company has implemented many practical support policies, helping farmers feel secure in investing, improving productivity and production efficiency.
Mr. Nguyen Ba Quy, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Deputy Director of Song Con Sugar Company, said that the company focuses on supporting people through loans for integrated production services, from subsurface plowing to improve soil, breaking up soil with 7-disc plows and rotary tillers, to planting sugarcane with machines combined with fertilization, including all labor costs.
In addition, the company proactively invests in and supplies new sugarcane varieties with high yields and good sugar content, suitable for the soil conditions of each region. Mechanization of production processes not only helps reduce costs and free up labor but also contributes to improving the productivity and quality of sugarcane raw materials. As a result, both the company and sugarcane growers benefit.
According to the 2026-2027 sugarcane production plan, Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company plans to plant approximately 1,500 hectares of new sugarcane, prioritizing the use of new sugarcane varieties with high yields and sugar content. To facilitate farmers' investment from the beginning of the season, the company continues to implement a policy of providing initial investment loans, while also supporting the provision of sugarcane bagasse (sugar cane sludge) for soil improvement and nutrient supplementation, contributing to improved production efficiency.
Furthermore, to encourage farmers to harvest sugarcane early, ensure processing schedules, and improve production efficiency, the company has implemented a direct support policy during the early part of the season. Specifically, households harvesting sugarcane within the first 10 days, from December 4th to 13th, will receive an additional 30,000 VND per ton. This policy not only motivates farmers to harvest on time but also helps the company secure its raw material supply, reduce pressure from overlapping harvests, and create a harmonious balance of benefits for both sugarcane growers and the factory.
In reality, the stability and development of the sugarcane raw material area of Song Con Sugar Company Limited is significantly contributed by sugarcane growers in the former districts such as Tan Ky, Anh Son, Con Cuong, Yen Thanh, Do Luong, etc. Along with that is the attention and support of local authorities in creating favorable conditions regarding infrastructure, internal field transportation, and production support for the factory.
