Seeing the train approaching, instead of stopping according to the traffic signal, the old man continued to drive his motorbike forward.

On June 5th, Traffic Police Team No. 14 (Hanoi City Police) announced that they had successfully prevented an elderly man from attempting to jump in front of a train to commit suicide.

Specifically, at around 10:00 AM on June 4th, while patrolling the Hoang Mai district, Lieutenant Colonel Le Van Tien, Head of Traffic Police Team No. 14, spotted an elderly man riding a motorbike with license plate 29G1-320.32, staggering as he traveled from Giap Bat towards Thanh Tri. Notably, the old man was intently looking towards the North-South railway line with an unusual demeanor.

Sensing a problem, Lieutenant Colonel Tien contacted the task force stationed at the intersection of Giai Phong and Nguyen Huu Tho streets to intercept the motorbike and investigate. Upon receiving the report, the task force at the intersection quickly devised a plan to intercept the vehicle and assist the elderly man.

Mr. Thanh intended to commit suicide due to family problems and despair.

As expected, when the North-South train passed, instead of stopping according to the railway signal, the old man continued to drive his motorbike into the unguarded level crossing.

Having prepared a rescue plan beforehand, upon seeing the situation, the three traffic police officers from the task force, along with team leader Le Van Tien, rushed to prevent the elderly man from running into the passing train. After being rescued, the old man fell to the ground unconscious, reeking of alcohol.

The task force took the elderly man to rest in the traffic control post. After regaining consciousness, it took some time to persuade him before he revealed his name was Nguyen Xuan Thanh (residing in Hoang Mai, Hanoi). Immediately afterward, the traffic police officers contacted Mr. Thanh's family.

Upon arriving to identify her relative, Mrs. Huynh Thi Hong Minh (Mr. Thanh's wife) stated that due to family problems stemming from arguments with her sister-in-law and younger brother the previous day, Mr. Thanh left very early on the morning of the incident. Before leaving, he said nothing but wept and lit incense for his father before planning to do something significant.

When Traffic Police Team No. 14 came to her house to inform her about her husband's situation, Mrs. Minh was shocked to learn that her husband's serious matter was his intention to commit suicide. After the incident, she wrote a thank-you letter, expressing her deep gratitude for the help of the officers of Traffic Police Team No. 14.
