62-year-old man still volunteers to burn trash to protect the environment

(Baonghean.vn)- Every day, people still see an old man stooping to burn large piles of trash along the road from the center of Nghi Cong Bac commune (Nghi Loc, Nghe An) to the Tam Toa temple relic.

That is Mr. Nguyen Viet Thao (62 years old) living in hamlet 6, Nghi Cong Nam commune.

Although his house is nearly 2km from the landfill, the rice fields where his family produces are located near the landfill, so every day he often sees people littering there. People don't even care about the no-dumping signs posted by the authorities and blatantly throw trash right at the foot of the beach.

Faced with the situation of the landfill growing larger and larger and the authorities have not yet taken measures to handle it, Mr. Thao has volunteered to regularly burn garbage here in the hope of reducing pollution. Constant exposure to the strong stench from the landfill, or smoke from burning animal carcasses, nylon, plastic, etc. greatly affects his health, but he is not discouraged.

Mr. Thao has been volunteering for this job for 2 years now.

Despite the hardship, Mr. Thao still tries his best, hoping to contribute his part to the environment. Mr. Thao said that he has been doing this job for 2 years now, and even though he burns continuously, he alone cannot do it all, so the landfill is still polluted.

What he wants most is for the authorities at all levels to soon have thorough solutions to restore a clean environment here.
