70-year-old man 'forced' to drink pesticide by young lover

(Baonghean.vn)- A 70-year-old man in Nghe An was tricked by a girl nearly 30 years younger than him into drinking beer mixed with pesticides and died of poisoning.

On the morning of August 15, Colonel Pham Hoai Nam - Head of the Criminal Police Department of the Provincial Police said that the unit is temporarily detaining Nguyen Thi Thanh (born in 1974, residing in Thanh Chi commune, Thanh Chuong district) to serve the investigation.

Suspect Nguyen Thi Thanh was accused of using pesticides to cause the death of Mr. NVP (born in 1947, residing in Thanh Chuong district).

Previously, on August 9, Thanh Chuong District Police received information from Mr. P's family about him being poisoned by pesticides, suspected of being harmed by someone.

Through verification from relatives, it is known that Mr. P. is separated from his wife and currently lives alone. Recently, Mr. P. had a relationship with Nguyen Thi Thanh. Immediately after that, Thanh was summoned to the police headquarters to clarify some suspicions.

During the process of working with the police, Nguyen Thi Thanh confessed that Thanh and Mr. P. had been in a romantic relationship for 3 years (Thanh was also separated from her husband).

Recently, Mr. P. has been spreading rumors about their relationship to many people, and has also bragged that Thanh will give birth to his child. Mr. P.'s actions have made Thanh feel ashamed and angry.

On the afternoon of August 8, Thanh bought a bottle of pesticide with the initial purpose of killing termites. When arriving at Dung town (Thanh Chuong), Thanh invited Mr. P. to go out for a beer. Taking advantage of the moment when Mr. P. was not paying attention, Thanh put pesticide in a glass of beer and forced Mr. P. to drink it all.

At midnight on August 8, Mr. P. began to have stomachache and vomit. On the morning of August 9, Mr. P.'s relatives found out and took him to the emergency room, but due to severe poisoning, Mr. P. died on August 14.

Thanh Chuong District Police coordinated with the Provincial Police's Criminal Techniques Department to conduct an autopsy, and then handed over the case file to the Criminal Police Department for investigation according to authority.
