Old man calmly reads newspaper in flooded cafe

The image of an old man reading a newspaper and enjoying a drink in a flooded cafe in Hong Kong has attracted thousands of likes on social media.

The photo, taken at a cafe in Chai Wan district, went viral after being shared on Facebook by Hong Kong's online video site TV Most.

"The newspaper said it would rain today but I forgot to bring my umbrella," the page captioned the photo in Chinese, attracting 19,000 likes and 1,500 comments.

The moment above is due toKristy Chan, a 23-year-old health worker, took the photo. She told the BBC that she was taking pictures of the flooding for her family when she came across the man, who was sitting near the entrance to a supermarket. She did not expect the photo to get attention because there were other people inside the shop.

"It's funny. Maybe he's an experienced person so the flood doesn't bother him," she said.

Heavy rains this week have left parts of Hong Kong flooded, but the photo above has residents expressing optimism. "Look, it's just rain, nothing to be afraid of. I won't be afraid of floods anymore. Be happy like him," one person wrote.

"Please stop raining, this old man can't drink coffee another day," another commented.
