An elderly man in Thanh Chuong district is supporting the local community in building concrete roads and charitable houses.
When mentioning Mr. Tran Khuong Duy, also known as Mr. Hong (75 years old) in Dai Dong commune (Thanh Chuong district), local people cannot help but love and admire him for his simple lifestyle, affectionate nature, and the good deeds he has done for his village and homeland.
To the people of Thanh Son hamlet, Dai Dong commune, Mr. Hong is "a wonderful person," who loves nature, the countryside, fields and gardens, lives a simple, harmonious life, respects the elderly, loves children, and is always ready to share difficulties with everyone.

Over the past period, he has supported six disadvantaged households in the commune in building charitable houses (20 million VND per household). According to Mr. Hong, he does charity work with all his heart, so to help someone, he must thoroughly investigate and ensure the help is for the cause to be meaningful.
Previously, the road from Hamlet 5, Thanh Hung Commune (formerly) to Thanh Hung Primary School was a dirt road, dusty in the sun and muddy in the rain, making travel extremely difficult for residents and students. Despite repeated calls from the local authorities, it had not yet been upgraded.
Seeing this, Mr. Hong contacted the local authorities for financial support to pave this road with concrete, spanning nearly 700 meters in length and 4 meters in width. Along the roadside, he planted 200 black star trees brought from Nghi Loc… aiming to create a green, clean, and beautiful road for his hometown.

During the years he lived in the South, memories of his birthplace remained deeply etched in the mind of this son of the homeland, who always yearned for his hometown with sincere affection.
Since moving to live in the village, he has had more opportunities to carry out the charitable deeds he had long cherished. Seeing the difficult and deprived lives of the local people, especially the lack of facilities for physical exercise and sports, he invested in building a community fitness center right by the village road, equipped with high-quality exercise equipment suitable for the health and fitness of the villagers.
Every day, in the morning and afternoon, the villagers gather here for lively and enthusiastic exercise. Everyone is delighted by the free and well-equipped training space.

To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival in 2024, he is preparing to install an additional slide system at a cost of tens of millions of VND to serve children in and outside the neighborhood.
Not only did he directly participate in local charitable activities, but he also encouraged his children and grandchildren living far away to regularly show concern, support, and donate gifts to disadvantaged and disabled families and children in the area through very practical actions, such as donating bicycles to poor students and providing cash assistance to needy families.
At the start of the new school year, he donated 22 bicycles to underprivileged students and a modern sound system, totaling 48 million VND, to Dai Dong Primary School.

It is known that Mr. Hong previously worked in the police force. After retiring, he took on various jobs and lived with his family in the South. He and his wife have three children (two daughters and one son) who are running businesses in Ho Chi Minh City.

Speaking about Mr. Hong, the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dai Dong commune, Mr. Nguyen The Tu, said: "It can be said that, from an ordinary citizen with a heart full of love for his homeland, always thinking of his hometown, Mr. Hong's actions not only have practical significance but also create a ripple effect among the people in terms of compassion and love, creating more faith and motivation for the people here to strive for a better life."
For the community, he is also an example of diligence and hard work, striving to overcome difficulties and rise above them, especially his concern and sharing of the difficulties with the local people...
