Cua Lo installs long-range AI cameras, increasing beach surveillance 24/7.

Over the past few days, VNPT Nghe An has deployed and installed a long-range camera system on a pole approximately 20 meters high in the Binh Minh Square area of ​​Cua Lo ward. This equipment is being piloted to test the ability to observe the beach area from above, and to evaluate the application of AI technology in management, monitoring, and ensuring the safety of residents and tourists.

The installed equipment is a Hikvision DS-2TD6267-100C4L/WY dual-spectrum thermal-optical camera system. The optical camera has a 4MP resolution, 56x optical zoom, and continuous 360-degree horizontal rotation. The system also integrates a thermal camera with a resolution of 640 x 512 and supports infrared with a range of up to 800m.

With its elevated mounting position, the camera can monitor a wide area of ​​the beach. The device is designed to be corrosion-resistant according to NEMA 4X standards, suitable for coastal environmental conditions. This is an important factor because electronic equipment operating for extended periods in Cua Lo is constantly exposed to salt spray, humidity, and weather.

Beyond simply recording images, the system integrates intelligent image analysis features, such as detecting boundary crossings, intrusions, and entry into or exit from designated monitored areas. VNPT Nghe An is currently continuing to integrate AI to test warning scenarios suitable for real-world beach conditions.

Currently, the system focuses on two main scenarios. First, it identifies instances of tourists swimming in restricted or dangerous areas to alert management staff and rescue teams, enabling timely checks and warnings. Second, it identifies situations involving large gatherings of people with signs of fighting or brawling, helping authorities quickly assess the situation and take appropriate action.

The introduction of AI technology into beach surveillance is expected to significantly assist management during peak hours. In reality, it's difficult for authorities to simultaneously monitor the entire beach area. Cameras act like continuously operating "eyes," expanding the field of view and providing additional information to officers on duty.

The system not only ensures the safety of beachgoers but also aims to raise awareness and compliance among locals and tourists. Behaviors such as spreading out mats for eating and then littering on the beach, damaging the landscape and environment; reckless driving of jet skis, picking up or dropping off passengers outside designated areas; gathering and causing disorder, fighting, racing, etc., will all be thoroughly monitored.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Ha from Cua Lo ward shared: "I think installing AI cameras is very necessary. With a monitoring system, residents and tourists will be more conscious of complying with regulations, maintaining hygiene, and ensuring safety. Most importantly, Cua Lo will become increasingly civilized, clean, and beautiful, so that both locals and tourists can feel safe and comfortable when coming to the beach."

Mr. Nguyen The Son, Deputy Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Department of Cua Lo Ward, said: "The system is currently still in the pilot phase. After a period of operation, the local authorities and the implementing unit will evaluate the observation capabilities, accuracy of the AI ​​features, and practical effectiveness in beach management."

If the model proves effective and resources are available, Cua Lo ward plans to study the installation of additional AI cameras in the Lan Chau island area and the 72m road leading to the sea. Adding more observation points will help expand the monitoring area, gradually forming a network of cameras covering the entire beach.

Along with investing in technology, Cua Lo ward continues to urge residents and tourists to raise their awareness, refrain from littering, avoid using jet skis improperly, avoid gathering in disorderly groups, and avoid carrying weapons, racing, or fighting in public areas. Everyone should also respect the privacy of others and refrain from inappropriate filming or photography in shower areas and public places.

Reportedly, the installation of a high-altitude surveillance camera system is part of Cua Lo ward's digital transformation plan, aimed at building a digital infrastructure system to serve tourism management and development. Along with the high-altitude surveillance cameras, the plan also includes a tourism information portal and digital map, and a smart public address system. The synchronized implementation of these solutions is expected to contribute to improved management efficiency, provide convenient information for residents and tourists, and gradually build Cua Lo into a modern and civilized tourist destination.
