Cuba makes the world's longest cigar to celebrate Fidel Castro's birthday.

A Cuban man rolled a 90-meter-long cigar to celebrate the 90th birthday of former president Fidel Castro.

"It's 90 meters long to commemorate the commander's (Fidel Castro's) 90th birthday," Jose Castelar, 72, a cigar maker, told AFP on August 12. Castelar has known how to roll cigars since he was five years old.

Cigars became an integral part of the image of former Cuban president Fidel Castro. In photographs taken when he was younger, he was often seen smoking a cigar while wearing a military uniform. He quit smoking cigars in the 1980s.

"I don't think he knew about me," Castelar said. "He hasn't smoked a cigar in years, but this gift is the result of our hard work to celebrate his birthday."

Castelar rolled a 90-meter cigar to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cigar, which currently stands at approximately 82 meters and was also set by him. He and his team worked 12 hours a day for 10 days to complete the product.

An official from the British embassy in Havana confirmed the length and will forward the information to Guinness World Records in the UK.
