Following their opening match in Group B of the AFF Cup 2024, the Vietnamese national team temporarily leads the group with a 4-1 victory over Laos, while Indonesia narrowly defeated Myanmar 1-0.

Vietnam's 4-1 victory over Laos earned coach Kim Sang Sik's team 3 points, temporarily putting them at the top of Group B. Despite a difficult first half, Vietnam exploded in the second half, scoring four goals through Hai Long, Tien Linh, Van Toan, and Van Vi. Laos' only goal came from a penalty in the 90+5th minute of added time.
In the other match played at the same time, Indonesia secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Myanmar thanks to a goal from captain Asnawi. However, Indonesia did not show particularly impressive form and needs to improve in the upcoming matches.
Currently, Group B is clearly divided. Vietnam and Indonesia are leading the group, while Myanmar and Laos have yet to score any points. The next match between Vietnam and Indonesia on December 15th will be decisive for the top spot, as both teams aim for a place in the semi-finals.
