A 1.6 billion VND deal for rare orchids in Nghe An?

Mr. Luat explained that his family has an ornamental orchid garden. During the care process, he discovered a mutated orchid plant called "Hong Bong Lai," and he tried to propagate it. He then sold the orchid to a customer on March 7, 2021.
According to Mr. Luat, the buyer of the orchid plant was named Kien, who introduced himself as being from Hoa Binh province, but his full name and specific address were unknown. This transaction was posted on social media by locals with a value of 1.65 billion VND.

The truth behind these transactions remains unclear. Some believe this is a scam perpetrated by orchid traders and could have unpredictable consequences for society. Speaking to the press, Mr. Nguyen Huu Van, Chairman of the Vietnam Ornamental Plants Association, said: "In general, I have never witnessed a transaction involving such a large sum of money, amounting to billions or even tens of billions of dong." The Chairman of the Ornamental Plants Association also stated that it is currently unclear whether these transactions are real, as they have not yet been verified by the police and tax authorities. While orchids are beautiful and rare, their value is only in terms of ornamental plants and "for viewing purposes." It is hard to believe that many people, no matter how passionate about flowers, would easily spend billions, tens, or even hundreds of billions of dong, as was recently seen in Quang Ninh, to buy rare orchids.
The Competition and Consumer Protection Department also advises people to be cautious when participating in transactions involving mutated orchids to avoid significant financial losses.
