'The Life of Yen' wins award at film festival in the Philippines.

This film about the life of a Vietnamese woman won the "Grand Festival Prize" at the 2016 Philippines International Film Festival.

The World Premieres Film Festival Philippines (WPFF) announced its list of honored films on July 3rd, 2016.

The Main Competition category featured five entries vying for nine awards. The Vietnamese film, "The Life of Yen," won the Grand Festival Prize. Directed by Dinh Tuan Vu, the film is set before 1945 and tells the story of a woman from Northern Vietnam whose life is full of hardship from the moment she marries at the age of 10.

"The Life of Yen" tells the story of the turbulent fate of a Vietnamese woman in the past.

Each of the four films competing alongside *The Life of Yen* won at least one award in eight other categories. The Philippine film, *Daughters of the Three Tailed Banner*, won the Grand Jury Prize. The Spanish film, *Love Above All Things*, took home the Technical Grand Prize, and also earned Israeli star Elejalde the "Best Actor" award.

Malaysian film Redha won the Special Festival Prize for its social value, and actress June Lojong was honored as "Best Actress". French director Camille Fontaine was awarded the Special Jury Prize for her film By Accident.

WPFF is a film festival for films making their world premiere. This cinematic event is co-organized by the Philippine Film Development Council, Cinematheque Manila, and the embassies of 60 countries and territories that submitted films for competition. This year's festival runs from June 29th to July 10th.

This year marks the third time WPFF has been held. In addition to the international film competition category, the festival also has three other categories: Filipino New Cinema, Intercontinental, and Asian Skies.

Also within the framework of the film festival, eight Vietnamese films were presented in The Country of Honor category, including *On the Peak of Serenity*, *Beauty*, *The Prophet*, *I See Yellow Flowers on Green Grass*, *Children of the Village*, *Winning the Lottery*, *12 Zodiac Signs: Paving the Way for Love*, and *Water 2030*.
